Royal Arms Guesthouse Nimmitabel Historic B&B in the Monaro region. ABOUT THE ROYAL ARMS

The older part of the Royal Arms was constructed in the 1850s, originally trading as the Royal Hotel.

A two-storey extension was added later, providing accommodation to guests. Over the years the building has served as pub, boarding house, dining hall, reception room, and bed & breakfast. From 1989-1991 the building was renovated by the Garside family to restore it to its historical form, removing various attempts to modernize the building's appearance, replacing rotting timbers, rewiring and repl

umbing. The result has been an elegant building that once again asserts itself in the center of town. ABOUT NIMMITABEL

Nimmitabel is a small country town on the southern end of the Great Dividing Range, located on the Snowy Mountains Highway 20 minutes south of Cooma. From here it is an easy day trip to the mountains or the beaches.

This afternoon there was a greyshrike thrush singing its little heart out.

This isn't a bird that visits regularly, for an assortment of reasons. I tried to video it, but like many of God's creatures it promptly stopped when a camera arrived. We did manage this photo though, and open the link to hear its sound

Update
Snow has stopped
Although it's icy, there is plenty of traffic on the road, keeping it clear

Our prediction is that it's done for the day. Sorry, no snowplay in the village. We doubt there's much else in surrounding areas. It's been a warm, dry winter so even the ground isn't ready for much snow.

From the Royal Welsh Show 2026.
For the farmers in our followers.

Grant is the eldest son of the late Mary and Allan Walker of Palarang just outside Bombala. They ran a poll hereford stud.

Dendor Herefords are the stud in Wales belonging to his sister Jenny (and family) who emigrated there many years ago. This is their show report.

Congratulations to them. (Pop on the sound for a touch of Welsh)

Royal Welsh Show 2026 ☀️

We took a small team of 2 to the RWS this year.
Dendor 1 Cruzcampo started his week winning the January 2025 to April 2025 born bull class, going onto win Junior Male Champion & Reserve Overall Champion.
On Tuesday Cruzcampo won the Elite Junior Bull Championship where the judge scores half the points on looks and half the points on figures. Thursday morning was the Junior Bull Interbreed where Cruzcampo won Native Interbreed Champion Bull and Reserve Overall Interbreed Champion Bull.

Our heifer Dendor 1 Holly 15th came 2nd in the Heifer born on or after April 2025 class.

We were thrilled to see Dendor bloodlines doing so well at the show too. Overall Champion Santa Maria 1 Alcatraz , Female Champion Bowendu Jennefer 2nd.

We took a drive out along Snowy Valley Way this afternoon, between Dalgety and Jindabyne. In the main the paddocks are dry and the feed is thin. However we spied a big, glossy echidna with such outstandingly yellow quills. Hoping that might mean rain?
