Beach walks have such a healing and calming effect on me. Even just a short walk, some deep breaths and a gaze out across the water is enough to give me new perspective.

Between Normanville Jetty and Carrickalinga Head Lookout there's about 4km of stunning beach to explore, and it's dog friendly so you can take your favourite furry walking companion along too.

A beautiful spot to visit near Ingalalla Falls, only 10 minutes from Little Norma

Standing alone like a ghost among the pines, Rose Cottage at Hay Flat is where time slows and memories linger. 🌿 Its crumbling stone walls and empty doorways tell stories of resilience: of lives lived, laughter shared, and the quiet strength of nature slowly reclaiming what was once hers.

Wander through the towering pines, step into the shadows, and let the stillness wrap around you. This isn’t just a ruin; it’s a reminder of beauty in decay, of history softly fading into the embrace of the forest.

Please admire Rose Cottage from afar, its walls have stood the test of time, and we can help them last by leaving them untouched. No climbing, no vandalism, just respect and reverence for a piece of the past.

Today we had lunch at Smiling Samoyed Brewery - a microbrewery serving up wood oven pizzas with a side of beautiful Myponga Reservoir views. This is a really dog friendly place, we were welcome to sit with our dog Evie anywhere inside or out. Some days their own Samoyed makes an appearance!

Smiling Samoyed is a quirky rustic place, very kid friendly with a playground and colouring in sheets. Our own kids loved colouring in these sheets during our visits years ago and I loved seeing that some of these precious colouring-in pieces have been chosen to be preserved on table tops!

As well as pizzas they're serving nibbles like chicken wings and arancini, and they have a range of their own craft beers on tap as well as some other local drops. Or try their unique hot chocolate - a hand crafted chocolate Samoyed for you to melt into a mug of milk.

Smiling Samoyed Brewery in Myponga is a great place for our guests to visit, on the way to or from Little Norma, or as a day trip - maybe paired with a walk and some kangaroo spotting around the reservoir 🦘🌲🍻

Our giant chess table is the centerpiece of the lounge room, perfect for board games or puzzles on a rainy day, or for spreading out your takeaway feast, or putting up your feet and getting comfy for a movie night 🍿

Have you heard - it's Buy SA week from 1-9 August - and so I'm taking the opportunity to talk about how much I love supporting SA businesses 🥰

Of course Little Norma is a South Australian small business, and we choose SA made things for Little Norma because I think locally made things are generally excellent quality. Also I'm connected to these things somehow through our shared location.

Here are just some of the SA made things at Little Norma, and some of the local places we like to recommend...

1. Firstly , this beautiful Little Norma sign was painted by a local artist with the biggest heart Jessica Royans

2. In the kitchen we keep ourselves well stocked with a variety of T BAR TEA tea bags and with the most lovely mugs by local ceramicist Cate from StudioOH.10

3. At the kitchen sink we have al.ive body products by local twins Alysa and Lysandra, and hand crocheted dish cloth by my friend Bonnie

4. In the main bedroom this gorgeous native flower arrangement by Adelaide Native and to the right you can spot a little artwork by Dana Kinter Art

5. We leave some FruChocs out for our guests as a treat for when they arrive, along with our Little Norma postcard and guide book - the Little Norma map on the postcard and book is by Saskia and Shadow

In our guide book are all our favourite local places to eat and drink, including...

6. Normanville Surf Life Saving Club must have one of the best views in SA, and I personally think it's a hidden gem. Great value pub-style food and drinks, but usually only open Fri-Sun. An easy 5 minute walk from Little Norma.

7. One Little Sister is a cafe on the main street, open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. They have an eclectic creative menu, which matches the artistic decor of the cafe. Also an easy five minute walk from Little Norma.

8. YORE Myponga is about 15 minutes at Myponga, so it's a great pitstop for coffee and snacks on the way to/from Little Norma. I love the vibe of this cafe/wholefoods shop, it's located in an old dairy factory.

9. Berg Herring Wines is just off South Road at Sellicks Hill. It's close to the Victory Hotel, and has the same sweeping views down to Sellicks Beach. The cellar door is a tiny old chapel and everything about the place is quirky and quaint, it's really lovely (as is their wine 🍷)

A little collection of snaps from my short stay at Little Norma this week 🫶

Little Norma sits on the corner of Jetty Rd and Field St - she's in a really great position, a short walk to Normanville's Main Street and to the Normanville Foreshore at the end of Jetty Rd. It's so easy to go for a stroll for a coffee, or to the beach to take in those healing properties of the sea 🌊🐚
