It was a real pleasure to be at the Denmark Environment Centre for the screening of the River of Giants movie and discuss the importance of sharing our love of the natural environment, which can and does change history.

Monastery Landing on the Frankland River/Kwakoorilup was the place that Pierre Bellanger took Sir James Mitchell, Minister for Forests to. He had already decided to log the area, but was so taken by the beauty of the area, he went back to Parliament and created Walpole-Nornalup National Park, for us all to enjoy.

We are Sal and Justin Bellanger. We are the owners and custodians of Sanctuary South Stays in Nornalup, on the south coast of Western Australia. Justin’s family have looked after this land for many generations. We acknowledge the Minang, Bibbulmun, Murrum people of the Noongar nation for their continuing connection to the earth and waterways. Our invitation to you is to come, explore, stay a while and return, understanding more and walking lighter on the Earth.

We have created two unique accommodation offerings on our 68 hectare farm and forest property. Nornalup Homestead is the house Justin grew up in. A large 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom family home, sleeping 8 in comfort and warmth. Nornalup Homestead was built in 1980 with timber from the property. The house tells the story of Justin’s great grandparent’s journey from France to Nornalup through photos, memorabilia and other artefacts.

Sanctuary Train is our railway carriage themed tiny house, built in 2024 by Tiny Homes Perth. Designed for one or two guests, Sanctuary Train tells the story of the Denmark to Nornalup Railway, which ran from 1929-1957.

We enjoy welcoming guests to wander the paddocks and the forest, venture into the beaches, rivers, inlets and forests of the surrounding Walpole-Nornalup National Park. Visit the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, go for a hike with LifeTrail, book a pack raft tour with WOW Wilderness EcoTours, and learn about our incredible biodiversity with WOW Wilderness EcoCruises.

May is Mother’s Month – we have a variety of guests booking stays for Mother’s Day at Nornalup Homestead and Sanctuary Train – on the actual day of Mother’s Day (Sunday May 10), or at other times during May, or even June.
