🎨 Art is all around Adelaide — sometimes where you least expect it. ☕️

We love discovering creative touches like this wonderful mural by Vinko Design on Grange Road, bringing a splash of colour and personality to the streetscape.

Vinko is an Adelaide-based artist and visual storyteller, with a passion for design, tattooing and large-scale murals. His work celebrates emotion, culture and individuality — and this one captures something many of us can relate to… a good coffee! ☕️😊

Located close to shopping, Drakes and local cafés, it’s a lovely reminder to slow down and notice the creativity that surrounds us as we explore Adelaide.

Saturday tip: keep your eyes open — you might discover something wonderful. 💙

Come and explore Adelaide, then stay like a local with Adelaide Style Accommodation. 🏡✨

🎉 WE’RE CELEBRATING 8 YEARS! 🎉

Eight years ago, Adelaide Style Accommodation began with a simple vision — to offer visitors to South Australia a welcoming home away from home, with space, comfort and a personal touch.

Since 2018, what a journey it has been!

Our accommodation has grown, we’ve welcomed guests from near and far, shared so many South Australian stories, achieved 4.5-star accreditation across our homes, received awards and recognition, and continued to discover new ways to make our guests’ stays special.

But when I look back over these eight years, it isn’t simply the milestones that stand out.

It’s the people.

The guests who have chosen to stay with us, returned again, recommended us to family and friends, left lovely messages in our guest books and allowed us to be a small part of their South Australian memories.

To everyone who has stayed with us, followed our journey, supported our business, worked with us or simply recommended Adelaide Style Accommodation — thank you. 💙

Here’s to 8 years of stays, stories and South Australian memories — and to the next chapter! 💙🥂

SALA | ART POPPING UP IN EVERYDAY PLACES 🎨

One of the wonderful things about SALA Festival is that during August, you never quite know where you might come across an artist at work!

At the South Henley Newsagency & Postoffice in Henley Beach South, we recently came across local artist Felicity Steer painting outside — easel set up on the footpath, brush in hand and a wonderful smile as she worked. 🎨

Felicity's beautiful work showcases scenes from our stunning Henley Beach coastline, capturing a little of what makes this part of South Australia so special. You can certainly tell she enjoys what she does!

Step inside the Post Office and you'll find more of Felicity's paintings on display as part of her 2026 SALA exhibition, “A New Day.”

The exhibition is free to visit and is on display Monday–Saturday, 7am–6pm throughout August.

It's also great to see a local business such as the South Henley Newsagency & Post Office supporting SALA and our South Australian artists. While you're there, linger longer — have a look around, discover some of the wonderful things available and experience the friendly local service too. Great to see you involved!

That's part of what makes SALA – the South Australian Living Artists Festival – so special. Throughout August, art pops up in galleries, cafés, shops, libraries, community spaces and businesses right across our state.

Whether you're a local or visiting South Australia, pick up the SALA program and see what's happening. Support local, discover our artists and linger longer in the communities you visit — you never know what else you'll find along the way.

SALA is another wonderful reason to explore South Australia, from our coastline to our city, towns and regions. ❤️

And while you're exploring, why not stay a little longer? Book one of our Adelaide Style Accommodation homes away from home, settle in and give yourself time to discover more of what South Australia has to offer.

HISTORY FRIDAY | WHEN A PHOTOGRAPH BECOMES HISTORY 📷

How often do we take a photograph without giving much thought to what it might capture for future generations?

A building. A streetscape. The way people dressed. A moment in time.

Recently, a book caught our eye — Captain Sweet’s Adelaide by Philip Pike and Julian Moore — and it reminded us just how powerful photography can be in telling the story of a city.

Captain Samuel White Sweet, born in England in 1825, spent much of his early adult life in the Royal Navy before eventually making South Australia his home. By the 1860s, photography was still relatively young, yet Samuel became an accomplished photographer, capturing Adelaide, its buildings, people and changing landscape with remarkable detail.

One of those photographs takes us to Hindley Street and Adelaide’s Theatre Royal.

The original Theatre Royal opened in 1868 and was substantially rebuilt in 1878. Samuel White Sweet's photograph, taken after that rebuilding, captured a grand Adelaide theatre that generations today never had the opportunity to see.

And here's a detail that made us smile. According to Captain Sweet’s Adelaide, the Theatre Royal and adjoining Theatre Royal Hotel were connected, so that “the gentlemen might comfortably allay their thirst during the intervals.”

Very convenient indeed!

The theatre became an important part of Adelaide's entertainment history, welcoming performers and audiences for decades. Eventually, however, the building disappeared from the Hindley Street streetscape, demolished to make way for the Miller Anderson car park.

But its story hasn't disappeared — in part because photographs captured it.

And while researching this story, we had one of those wonderful coincidences.

We remembered taking a photograph some time ago of an old Adelaide newspaper entertainment page. Looking at it again, there it was in the advertisements — THEATRE ROYAL, along with the names of internationally renowned actors Irene Vanbrugh and Dion Boucicault.

At the time, we simply thought the old newspaper was interesting and took a photo.

We didn't realise that one day that photograph would help us uncover another little piece of Adelaide's theatrical history.

Perhaps that's the wonderful thing about photography.

We take photographs to remember today — but sometimes, without knowing it, we're also recording history for tomorrow. 📷

South Australia has so many stories waiting to be discovered — in our buildings, streetscapes, photographs and the places we pass every day.

So why not make South Australia part of your next getaway? Explore Adelaide's history, wander its historic streets and discover some of the stories that have shaped our state — then come home to the comfort of one of our Adelaide Style Accommodation homes.

🏡 Stay a little longer. Explore a little further. Discover South Australia.

And keep following Adelaide Style Accommodation for more of our History Friday discoveries, local stories, places to explore and a little inspiration for your next South Australian stay.

History is all around us — sometimes you just have to look a little closer.

THURSDAY THOUGHTS ☕🌿

Sometimes the simplest moments are the ones we remember.

Pour a cup of tea, sit outside and take in the garden — listen to the birds, watch the activity around you and enjoy having nowhere you need to rush off to.

Catch up with family or friends you’re travelling with, reminisce about the day’s adventures or make plans for tomorrow.

Or simply do nothing at all.

After all, holidays are also about slowing down, switching off and giving yourself time to unwind.

At Adelaide Style Accommodation, our homes give you the space to enjoy your holiday at your own pace — because sometimes a quiet cuppa in the garden and a little time to simply be is exactly what you need. ☕🌿

🌿 ECO STYLE TUESDAY | South Australia is coming alive 💧

What a beautiful sight across South Australia at the moment!

This photo, taken here in Gawler, captures one of our local rivers flowing strongly after the welcome winter rain we've been experiencing. Gawler is shaped by its waterways — the North Para River and South Para River meet here to form the Gawler River — and at the moment they're certainly putting on a show. 💧

Across South Australia, this welcome rain is bringing fresh life to our landscapes. In a state known for its naturally dry climate, seeing our waterways flowing is something pretty special — and a wonderful reminder of just how precious water is to our environment, native vegetation and wildlife.

We're already seeing signs of what's to come, with our spectacular Sturt's Desert Pea appearing in the Flinders Ranges. 🌺 We can only imagine what this wonderful rain may bring as we head towards spring.

At Country Style Louisa in Gawler, we're looking forward to spring too. We've lovingly planted and cared for our native garden for guests to enjoy, and we can't wait to see it respond to the season.

🌿 Thinking about your next holiday? Put South Australia on your list and experience our beautiful state as it bursts into life this spring.

Stay in one of our Adelaide Style Accommodation homes and make yourself at home while you discover more of South Australia. 🏡

💚 Rain today. New life tomorrow.
