It was a lovely evening of good conversations, meeting talented artists and admiring vibrant paintings—from beautiful spring florals to coastal scenes and landscapes celebrating South Australia. 🌸🌊

This curious kookaburra was recently spotted perched on the fence at our beautiful Country Style Louisa home in Gawler, keeping a watchful eye on the garden before searching for a tasty snack amongst the greenery! 🪱

One of the joys of having Australian native trees and garden spaces around our accommodation is welcoming some wonderful feathered visitors. 🌳💚

For our interstate and international guests, spotting an iconic Australian kookaburra right in the garden can be a special little holiday memory.

🌿 Eco Style Tuesday – Does this caterpillar have two heads? 🐛

Take a closer look at this colourful little visitor! 💛🖤🤍

One of the fascinating things about the Monarch (Wanderer) butterfly caterpillar is that, at first glance, it can almost look as though it has a head at both ends!

Of course, it doesn’t. Those tentacle-like filaments at the front and rear, together with its bold black, white and yellow striped body, can make it harder for a predator to immediately work out which end is which – and which direction the caterpillar might move. A clever little piece of nature’s defence system. 🌿

This caterpillar was happily making the most of its host plant – an important reminder that if we want butterflies in our gardens, we also need to provide the plants their caterpillars need to survive and complete their life cycle. 🐛➡️🦋

At Adelaide Style Accommodation, caring for our environment is part of the way we operate. From our butterfly-friendly verge garden at our North Adelaide accommodation to supporting local conservation initiatives and making more sustainable choices across our homes, we believe even small spaces and small actions can make a difference. 🌱

💗 Coming together for

What a wonderful afternoon of connection, conversation and community at Ali Clarke and Leah Baylis’ Longest Table, held at Prohibition Liquor Co in Adelaide.

I was delighted to attend and what stayed with me most was the warmth in the room and the openness of the conversations.

With one in seven women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, events like this are about so much more than fundraising. They help raise awareness, encourage us to talk about breast health and remind us of the importance of keeping up with recommended breast screening and mammograms.

It was wonderful to hear Ali and Leah share their stories so openly, and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with them both during the afternoon.

And what a fantastic result — $7,235 raised for breast cancer research through The Hospital Research Foundation Group! 💕

The Longest Table is all about bringing people together to , and this afternoon certainly did that.

History Friday | Step inside Adelaide’s history

There are some places in Adelaide where history isn’t behind glass — you can walk right through it.

One of my favourites is the beautiful Adelaide Arcade, right in the heart of the city between Rundle Mall and Grenfell Street.

Opened in 1885, Adelaide Arcade was considered an incredibly modern shopping precinct for its time, with its grand domes, glass roof, ornate details and even electric lighting. Today, its beautiful heritage architecture sits alongside a wonderful collection of specialty shops, making it a place where Adelaide’s past and present meet.

And there are plenty of little stories to discover along the way.

The fountain at the Rundle Mall entrance has its own history too. When Rundle Street became a pedestrian mall in 1976, the fountain was relocated to its current position — and during the celebrations it was famously filled with ch*****ne!

Look up at the domes and you’ll also spot the Adelaide Arcade Coat of Arms, created before Australia had officially adopted its national Coat of Arms. The Arcade’s version is still proudly displayed today.

And if you love discovering the stories behind old buildings, there’s even a free self-guided Adelaide Arcade History Tour. You can follow the printed tour or explore the audio-visual version on your mobile, discovering the Arcade’s architecture, characters and stories from 1885 to today. There’s also a free museum tucked away inside Gay’s Arcade.

So next time you’re exploring Adelaide, slow down, look up and step inside. ✨

It’s not just a beautiful place to shop — it’s a little piece of South Australian history that is still very much alive today.

🌳🎉 HAPPY 45TH BIRTHDAY, TREES FOR LIFE SA 🎉🌳

45 incredible years of growing, restoring and protecting our beautiful South Australian environment.

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending a special 45th birthday luncheon at the Adelaide Convention Centre, overlooking the stunning River Torrens. What a wonderful afternoon, surrounded by passionate, like-minded people, enjoying delicious food, excellent company and some truly inspiring presentations.

CEO Jessica McKelson warmly welcomed everyone and shared some remarkable insights into the organisation's achievements, including the extraordinary contribution of its volunteers.

🌿 A few highlights from the afternoon:
🦜 Saving our Regent Parrots! We learnt about an exciting conservation project in the Riverland, restoring native vegetation corridors and planting important food sources to help protect these vulnerable birds. What a fantastic initiative.

🍷 Conservation in the Barossa.
Ian Hongell from Vintners shared some fascinating insights into their environmental restoration work in the Barossa Valley. We also enjoyed their delicious wines. Definitely worth a visit!

🌱 The incredible work behind seed collection! Hearing from one of Trees For Life (SA) dedicated volunteers about the importance of collecting native seeds was fascinating. The quantity and variety of seeds collected to enable volunteer growers to propagate so many different native species was simply amazing.

And the big question is...

🌳 Just imagine how many millions of trees, shrubs and native plants have been grown and planted across South Australia over the past 45 years because of this wonderful organisation and its volunteers.

As a volunteer grower myself, I absolutely love being involved with Trees For Life. There is something incredibly rewarding about growing native plants, knowing they will help restore our environment and benefit future generations.

To the original founders, dedicated staff, supporters and every volunteer, past and present, thank you for 45 years of making a difference to our beautiful state.
