ATTENTION ROAD USERS:
Council continues to monitor the Mitchell Highway (South) and Kidman Way (South) roadways.
At this point, the Mitchell Highways (South) is open to 4WD vehicles with high clearance only under es**rt during the hours of 8am to 7pm daily,
The road is closed to heavy vehicles.
Resupply and Emergency Service heavy vehicles with an approved Council issued Permit are able to travel under es**rt vehicle arrangements only, between the hours of 8am to 7pm daily. After hours travel is not permitted. Permit arrangements for heavy vehicles will continue until further notice.
There is existing damage to the roadway in places and to protect the roadways from further damage the road is not open to other heavy vehicles. Both heavy vehicles, other than those approved for resupply, and light non 4WD vehicles will have to take an alternate route due to the saturation of the road and the damage these vehicles may cause.
Unfortunately, however, given the saturation of the subbase, it may be necessary for further closures of the roads to be enacted at short notice. Again, Council will notify the public.
The Kidman Way (South) remains CLOSED due to the height of the water until further notice.
‼️ It has been brought to Councils attention that drivers have ignored the Permit System or the nighttime travel curfew. As of 1 December 2022, travellers identified to be accessing the roadways in contravention of the road closure signage, will be advised to the NSW Police, as per NSW traffic regulations.
Council understands the significant inconvenience to travellers as a result of the current circumstances.
Please contact Bourke Shire Council for further information on 6830 8000 or after hours 0419 722 055.
