Having been a "hybrid" worker my entire career, splitting time between home, the office, and the road (almost evenly a lot of that time), I'm pleased to see others now able to benefit from the same arrangements in our post-COVID "new normal".

This is a great opportunity for us to find better work-life balance, downsize offices, minimise commute time (and associated environmental impact in a time of unmitigated ), and become more productive. The transition needs to be handled carefully though, with policies like "Mandatory Mondays and Fridays" delivering the worst of both worlds — needing to build for maximum capacity, reducing freedom and flexibility, and causing disruption. A more fluid approach including the pre-booking of limited hotdesks on an as-needed basis (with an optional minimum of 1-2 days per week) seems like the optimum balance for most businesses, but it will depend on what work is being done.

What are your thoughts?

Mandatory Mondays and Fridays. Unused desks and crowded conference rooms. “Thursday’s the new Monday.” That’s what employers and workers are navigating as they return to offices.
