The whales have returned. 🐋

Each winter, these magnificent travellers journey along our coastline, their presence a quiet reminder of just how extraordinary the natural world can be.

For guests of Miles Away Shack, the Bluff at 13th Beach offers a front-row seat to one of nature’s greatest spectacles… if you are lucky.

She’s a big ocean out there, and if your in the right place at the right time, wrapped in a warm coat, watching the horizon, waiting for the misty exhale of a whale or the breathtaking arc of a breach, it’s the kind of moment that truly is magic!

This beautiful soul was captured just off the coastline, a fleeting yet powerful reminder of the wild beauty that surrounds us. 💙

Our lovely guests were due to arrive for their anniversary getaway, but an unexpected work commitment has popped up. We’ve happily rescheduled their stay because, well… life happens.

A special thank you to Instagram for the reminder that my entire sense of self apparently lives inside an app. 😅

After a suspected hacking attempt, I was locked out of both of my accounts .studio for a few days and had the unique pleasure of proving to the internet that I am, in fact, me and a real person.

The process involved passwords, codes, facial recognition and enough security checks to gain access to a small country’s defence system.

Anyway, the good news is I’m back, my accounts are secure, and according to Instagram, I officially do exist again.

What a time to be alive!

So, back to regular programming… 🩷

And if a few days away from Instagram taught me anything, it’s that real life is still infinitely better than the tiny square on our screens.

And places like the Miles Away Shack are a good reminder of that too.

A place where mornings begin slowly, coffee is best enjoyed in the sunshine, and the soundtrack is birdsong and distant waves rather than notification alerts.

Designed as a retreat from the noise of life, Miles Away is all about simple pleasures, a beautiful space, thoughtful details and the chance to properly switch off for a while.

The internet may have temporarily forgotten who I was, but thankfully this little corner of Ocean Grove is still here doing what it does best. Helping people slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with what matters.

And honestly, after this week, that sounds pretty perfect to me.

Winter on the coast has a way of slowing everything down in the best possible way.
Quiet beaches, salty air, long walks rugged up against the wind, and a place to come back to afterwards that feels warm, calm and grounding.
