This time last year we caught this Barra, in 3 minutes would u believe.! We threw the cast net, 3 small prawns on a hook and bang this 75cm Barra !!

You can't beat the taste of these Burrum Barra.!

The Boat House is ON the Burrum River. This is a fisherman's paradise - you could fish from the large overhanging deck, moor your boat directly in front of the house, head out to the mouth of the Burrum River or cruise the river and fish to your heart's content. The historic township of Howard is only a 10 minute drive away & has the conveniences of a supermarket, butcher, baker, newsagent & pub.
Howard itself, a rural town, is just west of the Burrum River and 27 km north-west of Maryborough. It was named after William Howard who settled in Maryborough in 1857 and carried out local explorations in the Isis scrub country and the Burrum district. He is credited with the discovery of the Howard coal field in 1876. Although the last coal mine in the area closed in '97, the township remains. Howard is a quintessential Australian town in look and character.

The Burrum River is famous for the diversity of both pelagic and bottom feeding fish which inhabit the river system. Bream and huge whiting are in the river all year round. Flathead are regularly taken from the beach right in front of the town.

There are also regular sightings of turtles and dugong and seasonal catches of crabs and prawns.

There are two boat ramps in Burrum Heads to launch larger boats and the river is safe to anchor in front of the Burrum River Boat House. You can fish the river or head offshore from here and set your pots on the way out.
