Ulva Cottage Penola

DID YOU KNOW?

Built between 1850 and 1869, Ulva Cottage Penola is one of the earliest in Penola.

Part slab construction, it has an exterior of vertical sawn timber, a simple corrugated iron roof skillion at the rear, paddock stone used at the chimney end and the eastern addition. Its interior walls are constructed from pit-sawn blackwood.
The cottage was purchased from Alexander Cameron by storekeeper Alan C Coleman in 1861 and then by licensed Prince of Wales Hotel victualler, Albert J Edwards in 1864. He was the owner until 1879, followed by his wife Catherine J Edwards until late 1882.
The building was placed on the National Trust Recorded List and confirmed as a State Heritage Place on the SA Heritage Register in 1984.

The South East Animal Welfare League (SEAWL) does incredible work giving local cats and dogs a second chance at life – and we’re so proud to have them as our charity partner for the Coonawarra Woof & Wine Walk. ❤️

In 2024 alone:
🐶 SEAWL welcomed 98 dogs
🐱 They cared for 154 cats

Like many not-for-profits, SEAWL faces big financial challenges, with rising veterinary, food, and energy costs. They are working to grow their “$10-a-month” supporter program to help cover these needs – and every bit of support makes a difference.

When you join the Woof & Wine Walk, a portion of your ticket goes directly to SEAWL to help them continue their vital work.
