Peta Preston - Image Stylist is the Australian Business of Adelaide born, Perth Local Peta Preston. She obviously knew what I was destined to do!

My passion for fashion has existed for as long as I can remember. I love clothes, shoes, handbags, hats, accessories and all things beautiful. I love the effect a well-styled outfit can have on an individual. To be involved in the process of this beautiful transformation is so rewarding. I have been fortunate enough to find a fulfilling career whereby my genuine love for people, fascination with h

uman behavior and obsession with fashion can co-exist. When I was a teenager, Mum often said “You could seriously shop for a living”. Fashion styling is more than choosing great clothes and keeping up with trends. Great styling is about me as a stylist, understanding my clients’ individual body shape and what garments are going to suit. It involves identifying their desires, fears and lifestyle needs. It’s about building their confidence – so they look good, feel great and have the self-esteem to achieve their own personal goals, not to mention becoming the envy of their peers! I have undergone studies at Australian Style Institute, home of Australia’s leading style and image professionals. Their unique method of styling is founded in critical principles of human behaviour – enabling me as a Professional Stylist to offer a unique perspective on styling that empowers my clients. I can have a defining influence in their lives by helping them to embrace their personal aspirations, tackle their fears, pursue ambitious career goals, make public appearances or even simply accept and learn to love themselves exactly the way they are. Did you know it takes approximately 3.5 seconds for someone to form an opinion of you when they see/meet you for the first time? 7% is words and 93% is visual! If we can influence the way people perceive us through our style, then as a Stylist comes power, responsibility and the ability to help people identify their own unique and beautiful style and transform them into the best version of themselves. As if my ‘new’ front door isn’t painful enough -
this morning the bolt was jammed on the gate and I couldn’t free it! I got so fed up, I found a new ‘back drop’ in the ally way!

One thing I don’t have to stress about is what to wear! Even though I have a very small rack of clothes, I’ve curated the perfect capsule wardrobe to avoid the ‘what to wear’ dilemma.

Event Styling today with one of my regulars. I always feel excited to have the responsibility of finding the perfect outfit that makes someone feel comfortable, stress free and amazing!

Yesterday I had a brief Style Consult with an existing male client. He dislikes shopping and investing in my services but really loves the outcome (as does his wife!). 😅 I therefore try to keep it short, sharp and efficient and I know deep down he likes me 😉

I purchased a couple of new clothes though! I had to! I feel as though I have cheated you all! Got this skirt from Ally so does that count? Have never purchased anything from there before. You don’t always have to spend a fortune. I think it will be super cute with a basic white tee and slides for summer. 😎

It doesn’t get much worse than this photo. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Blurred screen, kids ball to one side of the frame and sun streaming in all the wrong places.

For 9 years I’ve been posting my OOTD photo on Instagram. Sorry, that’s wrong. When I have a client, I post. No, that’s not always true. Give or take a few times I’m overwhelmed, tired or it’s too dark to take a photo by the time I get home, I normally post when I have a client. I did it initially as ‘social proof’ I’m a working Stylist. Years later, I feel as though my Instagram is void. I don’t post and still, I receive client bookings. Thank goodness for word of mouth and a great website! 😅 I’m a late Gen X and can’t be bothered developing content, am too busy servicing clients, raising teens and caring for aging in-laws….AND I’m really s**t with social media tech. 😅 Hats off to all my fellow Stylists who create amazing content and nail it!

As a Stylist, I have a tough job. It’s not all about hitting the shops, pointing out the latest trends to my client and heading home.

Today I spent nearly 5 hours with a beautiful new client. Her wardrobe was massive! Loads of items, unworn with swing tags. She had so many clothes that fit and flattered and a s**tload that didn’t.

She doesn’t require a 3 hour ‘Pre-shop’ and 3 hour ‘Shop’. She needs a 1 hour shop with me to invest in a couple of staples and that’s it! I need to get back to her home and show her how to style her existing audited wardrobe!

Why? Cause if I don’t, nothing will change and she will be in the same rut. She will feel the same s**t, pressure and anxiety. She won’t have styling freedom (just more clothes) and she won’t feel as though her investment with me was money well spent!

She came to me with a problem.
She thought she needed to shop.
She absolutely doesn’t.
I could do the ‘quick fix’! The excitement of purchasing new clothes and then just walk away.
I can’t do that!
I need to amend the Package she purchased
I need to give her permission to cull the items that no longer serve her
I need to give her permission to wear a nice outfit to ‘coffee’
AND, give her the confidence to be ‘HER’.

Together, we will achieve this! 🥰

🌸🌼🍃 Spring vibes today in sunny Perth!

Existing Client Refresh shop today with a client I’ve shopped with 3 times. Would she wear the .official dress I’m wearing today? HELL NO! Her style is very classic, clean lines, no fuss, no pattern, versatile and effortless. NOTHING LIKE ME! 😅

Please don’t think you need to find a Stylist who dresses exactly as you! A great Stylist will take the time to curate a ‘pre-shop’ with you in mind, for you!

Client objectives are seldom are ‘on trend’.
My ‘KPI’s’ for each client vary but they build the foundation of my shop;

Come within budget
Compliment colours
Dress for body shape
Dress for lifestyle
Dress for style (ie: are you classic, effortless, edgy, trendy)

Take into account, allergies, brands they don’t like, colours they won’t wear, hem lengths, skirt length, dress length, cut/colour, vegan, fabrics, insecurities… the list is endless but really important for me to consider when shopping for each and every individual.

I had a Wardrobe Audit today with a beautiful woman. Her adult kids gifted her the experience for her birthday. I loved every hour we spent together and I felt so grateful her daughter picked me for the job! I feel as though this client was meant to meet me! 🫶🏼

Side note. This was the dress I wore in my last photo! In case you missed it, I’m relocating to Adelaide at the end of the year. 90% of my wardrobe is now in Adelaide. I carefully selected one roller rack of clothes, which must see me through the end of Winter, Spring and the start of Summer! It wasn’t easy. 😅 Let’s see how I go! I kept the versatile and Tran-seasonal pieces and those i can easily dress up or down! 👌🏻

What a day! I had a Mother of the Groom and Melbourne Cup Event Style and an Express Shop for a whole new wardrobe. Between and I managed to ACE it! Clients were wrapped! So happy with the outcome! 🙌🏼
