Thankyou Kalgoorlie!

What a exceptional reception you put on for us... , and desertfiredesigns so recently. Thankyou so much

I am still catching up with the after waves (hence this rather late posting).

So, here are some reflections from that stellar week that was, earlier this month.

Some beautiful and stunning gifts now call their home Kalgoorlie, what a privilege to be a part of that heritage

My thanks to the team and everyone who pitched in before during and after to help make it happen. We are already looking forward to doing this again next year.

This selection of images feature native copper from the DeGrussa copper mine, a product of recent work at Desert Fire Designs at Willetton.

For Kalgoorlie

When offered gold 'speccies' I'm always interested.
Especially when offered material with such potential as this one.

A very special privilege to work on such a special work of nature.
Placed here for your enjoyment.

On display at our current retail experience in Kalgoorlie.

Image three onwards recounts stages in my preparation of the 4 oz 'speccie'.
The last two are of the the original gold in quartz as purchased earlier this year, thank you so much B.... for the opportunity, I will be always grateful.

For Kalgoorlie

In preparing something special to bring to Kalgoorlie this year my brother Ian and I selected several rough pieces of chrysocolla ore (from the DeGrussa copper mine, closed now ) that had been sitting around at the rear of the workshop.
We locked them under the drill press and proceeded to drill and in the process discovered something different... special.

A highly finished stick of core...together with the natural rough block. As a geo nerd I find the combination sublime...but hey!

Until it has been sanded I never really know how these minerals will present. The colours are striking and the patterning always different, so typical of nature.

No wonder I enjoy working with it so much.

The last image, my brother Ian wrestling with the drill-mill and chrysocolla ore to recover colourful core.
Every aspect of working copper-based material is messy work, always requiring the use of various pieces of PPE. In this instance the water flow across the drill area was more than sufficient dust suppression. We never do dry mechanical work.

This drilled core and rough will be one of our featured items at Kalgoorlie.
I'm really looking forward to being there. Come along to see many more original works from

Things at the workshop have never been busier or more productive as we head into the last few days before we set up shop again in Hannan St. Kalgoorlie.
This is a very special occasion and one I look forward too every year.

I have been focused on some very special gold specimens recently. In particular this beauty.
It was saved, quite literally at the last minute from the ball mill on a mine site...quite by fortunate accident, then brought to my workshop for some light refurbishing. See the other images...when it was delivered.

After a couple of days this 15 oz Cinderella was fit for a special place in the high lights.
The finely crystalline leafy gold totally mesmerizing. What a privilege to be tasked with working on such a miracle of nature.

I won't be able to bring this specimen to our store in Kalgoorlie however I will have other remarkable gold veined quartz goodies and more to wonder over. Watch this space over the next few days for some of them.
