An amazing weekend of running at the Kangaroobie Base Camp Ultra! Teams of 4 ran 216km in a relay on our beautiful bush tracks and over the paddocks. The winners were a local team (Fatigued Momentum) that finished in just on 24 hours. If you want a real challenge, we will see you here next year!

I had the pleasure of running a Camp Manager’s Course in Canberra last week at Camp Cottermouth (near Mt Stromlo). Courtney and Joy attended as well as camp professionals from all around Australia. It went really well and I always come away inspired by the fantastic people involved in our industry and their commitment to providing growth opportunities for young people who attend our programs.

On the 20th February every year, the sunset from our lounge room falls in the V made by the sand dunes and Point Ronald. I thought this year the cloud would be in the way but it came through for me (with the added bonus of a bittern booming in the background - if you haven’t heard of the bunyip bird, do yourself a favour and google it!). Another school has hit our Honour Board! Williamstown HS have been coming to Kangaroobie for 34 years and have placed their 30 year plaque on the board today. Our long term relationships make us really proud and we love being able to celebrate them. Another cracking week of camp!

Farm Activities is one of the most important activities we run at Kangaroobie (and one of the favourites!). Feeding the cows with hay is really fun, so each year we have to make small square bales and my fantastic neighbour, Neil (who is 80+!) brings his old baler over and then we cart them in. It was great having my boys home to get them into the shed. Does anyone remember carting small square bales?

These legends (Phil and Janet) are from St Martin’s PS in Mount Gambier and have been bringing Grade Five students to Kangaroobie for over 20 years. This year marked their final camp because they are both teaching different classes next year. I truly value their friendship and their commitment to the young people they teach in a calm and professional manner. Thanks for believing in what we do here at Kangaroobie and we will miss you! (It was Phil’s 60th birthday during the week and he chose to spend it with us).

The annual Powerhouse Dads and Kids Weekend at Kangaroobie has just wrapped up and was a blast again! A marauding gang of multi-aged kids doing the classic activities and some Dads and Kids only activities (like wrestling Stebbo on the raft or Cops and Robbers) were amazing in the way they worked together and helped each other out. I am already looking forward to next year!

The legends from Footscray West Primary collected all of this plastic off the beach at Princetown, in between playing Mugby, life or death, obstacle course, farm activities, Kangaroobie Survivor, night walks, gaga and dealing with a very windy day on Wednesday! It was so much fun, and thanks again for getting involved in everything (despite the weather).
