**Closure of Lions Camp Kanga**
The Lions Clubs of North Queensland regret to advise that after a thorough analysis and consideration, we have had to make the decision to close Lions Camp Kanga, effective immediately. This due to the camp proving over recent years to being no longer financially viable.
Although we have promoted our appeal at the budget end of the market, we have struggled since COVID-19 to return to anywhere near our previous booking lists. We struggle to compete, with schools being our main market, now going to more attractive competitors offering newer modern facilities and activities. Compounding the lack of client income, we still have some ageing infrastructure, some now forty years old, rapidly requiring significant investment.
Lions are proud to have provided over the last 35 years an enjoyable, affordable and interesting facility for the education and wellbeing of school children, as well as by other groups, in a natural setting.
Camp Kanga has provided a substantial economic flow to the many traders in the local area over the last thirty-five years, and at the same time we have appreciated the support reciprocated by the local community.
Lions recognise the enjoyment we have provided to generations of our past camp clientele and will retain fond memories of our time with Camp Kanga. Whilst a sad event for Lions, this is a commercial decision.
We now continue with negotiating options with the State Government for possible alternate use of the Camp including, as necessary, disposal of our assets.
