Penghana is a National Trust mansion set amongst 2.5 acres of gardens and rainforest. Built by the Mt Lyell Mining and Railway Company in 1898 for Robert Sticht, the first General Manager and remained as the manager’s residence until 1995. Heritage listed in 1978, Penghana is Queenstown’s signature Federation residence and plays an important role in the history of the town. Today Penghana operates

as a Bed and Breakfast where you can experience the lifestyle and charm of a past era represented by historic photographs, antique furniture, mine memorabilia the beautiful stained glass front entrance, grand black-wood staircase and spacious rooms. The house garden is an extensive area of lawn surrounded by beds of Rhododendrons which define the upper edge of the woodland garden that extends down the steep slopes of the property. The gardens and pathways beyond the house area are soon to be restored so as to showcase the house from the town centre.
