There are sunsets and then there are Kyra Sand Hills sunsets.

Our Kyra Sand Hills Sunset Tour is about slowing down and soaking it all in. Enjoy a refreshing beverage and a delicious cheese platter as the sky transforms into shades of gold, orange, pink, and purple before taking a leisurely walk to the top of the sandhills to witness a view that few people ever get to experience as its on private property.

It's peaceful. It's breathtaking. And it's a reminder of just how incredible the Australian Outback really is.

Some experiences are simply better together.

When you visit South West Queensland, why choose between ancient history and authentic outback station life when you can experience both?

We're proud to work alongside the incredible team at the Eromanga Natural History Museum to offer tour groups the very best of our region. Spend your days immersed in life on a working station at Toogunna Plains Farmstay, where you'll enjoy genuine country hospitality, station tours, campfires under the stars, and become part of the Toogunna family.

Then, step back millions of years at the Eromanga Natural History Museum, where world-class fossil discoveries bring Australia's prehistoric past to life. Top it all off with their unforgettable five-course degustation dinner, where local flavours and outback hospitality combine to create a truly memorable evening.

By working together, we're able to offer visitors more than just a stop along the way we create a complete outback experience that showcases the history, people, landscapes, and hospitality that make this corner of Queensland so special.

Whether you're planning a group tour, coach holiday, flying in or private itinerary, we'd love to welcome you to experience the best of both worlds.

📍 Stay at Toogunna. Explore Eromanga. Leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

There’s nothing quite like the arrival of a tour group at Toogunna Plains.

We were thrilled to welcome guests from Fun Over 50 Holidays as they arrived on the final Backing the Outback Journey. The smiles, the dust, the stories, and the excitement all rolled in together, despite the rain and needing to leave their bus on higher ground and ferry them in on our bus, we loved every minute of it.

At Toogunna, welcoming guests isn’t just something we do it’s something we take real pride in. Whether you arrive as an independent traveller, with a tour group, or as part of a plane group, you’ll always be greeted personally, made to feel at home, and treated like one of the family.

From drinks and yarns around the fire, to shared meals, station experiences, laughter, and stories that carry on well after the sun goes down this is what Toogunna hospitality is all about.

So here’s to the final Backing the Outback Journey, to the wonderful Fun Over 50 Holidays guests, and to every traveller who becomes part of the Toogunna story.

Once you arrive here, you’re not just visiting — you’re family. ❤️

Rain in the outback it's a blessing we never take for granted!

This season we've been lucky enough to receive some wonderfully unseasonal rain here at Toogunna Plains. The country is greener than we've seen in a long time, the wildlife is thriving, and the station is looking absolutely spectacular.

While that's fantastic news for outback properties, it does bring a few challenges for tourism businesses.

With destinations like Cameron's Corner and Birdsville becoming temporarily inaccessible, many tour operators have had to completely rethink their itineraries. Here at Toogunna Plains Farmstay, we've been incredibly fortunate to continue welcoming guests throughout the wet weather.

Has it been a little more challenging? Absolutely! But our team has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure every guest still enjoys the authentic Toogunna Plains experience.

Our washers and dryers have been working overtime trying to keep up with 18-room changeovers, and we've added dark entry mats and handy black cloths at every cabin and in our dining room to help keep muddy boots outside where they belong.

Getting guests here has also required a little creativity. When touring coaches that aren't four-wheel drive arrive, we meet them on higher, firmer ground and ferry guests into the Farmstay using our own buses, ensuring the larger coaches stay safely out of the mud. Likewise, when charter flights are unable to land on our soggy airstrip, we greet guests at Eromanga Airstrip and bring them back to the Farmstay ourselves. It's all part of making sure everyone arrives safely while keeping both the aircraft and coaches high and dry.

Our tours have had a few adjustments too. With the station tracks too soft for our buses, we've swapped our usual station tour for some fantastic alternative experiences that showcase the incredible history of the region. Let's just say you'll leave knowing a little more about oil, opals and shearing! 😉

Our famous sunset tours to the sandhills are taking a short break while conditions improve, but our guests have been treated to equally breathtaking sunsets right from the Farmstay. Sometimes the best seat in the house is only a few steps from your cabin.

Even our dining experiences have had a cosy makeover. Instead of lunches in the shearing shed and dinners at the homestead, we've been gathering together in our dining room. What started as a wet-weather contingency has turned into something really special, with guests loving the intimate atmosphere, wonderful conversation and delicious meals shared together.

The beauty of the outback is that it's always changing, and so are we. No matter what Mother Nature throws our way, our commitment remains the same to ensure every guest leaves with incredible memories, genuine outback hospitality and a truly unforgettable experience.

So if you have a stay with us coming up, rest assured we've got you covered. Rain or shine, we'll continue to adapt, innovate and do everything we can to make your visit one to remember.

Who knows some of these "wet weather alternatives" have been such a hit, they may just become a permanent part of the Toogunna Plains experience! 🤎
