This weekend, Sydney belongs to the runners. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The Sydney Marathon is one of the biggest weekends on the city’s calendar, and at Buxton House, it’s one that feels particularly close to home.

Running has always been a passion within the Buxton family, so we know that race weekend is about much more than the kilometres; it’s the early mornings, the preparation, the nerves, the determination and, finally, crossing that finish line.

We’re proud to welcome runners staying with us and to support them as they get ready for their big day.

To every guest taking on the Sydney Marathon, and every runner out there this weekend, we’ll be cheering you on.

Good luck, Sydney. See you at the finish line!

A short walk from Buxton House, close enough that you'll wonder why you'd ever order room service instead.

Three Williams Cafe is a Redfern fixture, set in a warehouse space that somehow makes weekday brunch feel like an occasion. Go for the breakfast menu, stay for the kind of morning that doesn't feel rushed.

It's the kind of place locals just call "Three Williams", no last name needed.

Staying at Buxton House? This one's a five-minute walk. Worth the trip.

There's a moment on every stay, usually the second morning, when a place stops feeling new and starts feeling familiar. That's when you know it's working.

Buxton House is built for that moment. The little things are sorted before you even notice you needed them: good coffee, good light, a layout that just makes sense.
Some stays are forgettable the second you check out. This one tends to follow people home.

August in Sydney has a certain energy; everyone's pounding pavement, chasing a personal best, training for City2Surf or the Marathon next door.

There's nothing wrong with that. But this city is just as good at half the speed. Same harbour, same light, none of the urgency.
You don't have to run to earn the view.

Running or walking, book your stay in Buxton House.

Most stays in Sydney look the same. Same beige, same throw pillow, same "boho" wall art.

Buxton House is the opposite of that, every detail considered, every corner designed to actually feel like somewhere, not just somewhere to sleep.

Redfern's quietest, most design-led stay. And it's closer to the city than you'd think. Link in bio to book your stay.

We spend so much time trying to get somewhere, from A to B, but we forget to look for the small details, that make Sydney special.

The light here does something most cities can't fake. The water changes colour depending on what kind of day you're having. It's all just... there. Waiting for you to slow down enough to notice.

This is your reminder. Look up today.

Tag someone who needs to slow down in Sydney with you and book your stay at Buxton house.

There's a particular kind of relief in arriving somewhere that already feels like it understands what you need. Buxton House does that, quietly, every time.
A few reasons people keep coming back:

✔️ It's genuinely close to the city. Redfern puts you minutes from the CBD, without the CBD price tag or noise.
✔️ It works for any reason you're here, weekend away, work trip, or just need a night somewhere that isn't your own four walls.
✔️ It's designed to be lived in, not just slept in, considered details, warm textures, nothing that feels like a generic hotel room.
✔️ It's quiet where it counts, a calm base to come back to, whatever your day looked like.
✔️ It's flexible, solo, with a partner, for a meeting the next morning. The space adapts to you.

Cosy enough for a weekend in. Practical enough for a Monday meeting. That's the point.

Sydney in July, sorted. 📍

Here's what's actually worth leaving the house for this month:
🇫🇷 Bastille Festival. The Rocks, 16–19 July. Four days of food, wine and art in the heart of the city.

🎄 Christmas in July. The Rocks, 10–19 July. Jazz sessions, live performers, and yes — it coincides with school holidays, so expect a crowd.

🏖️ Bondi Festival. Bondi's 17-day winter festival is back with comedy, music, theatre and the Bondi Vista Ferris Wheel. 2026 is a milestone (Bondi's postcode!) so it's their biggest lineup yet.

⛸️ Darling Harbour Ice Rink. Open daily until 19 July if you want to pretend it's actually cold enough to skate.

✊🏾 NAIDOC Week. Celebrated across the city in the second week of July, honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture.

Bring a jacket, it's the one month Sydney actually commits to winter. And don't forget to book your stay with Buxton House.

Save this for your July plans 📌 and tell us in the comments which one you're going to.

A boutique stay is only as good as its postcode.

Buxton House sits in Redfern, five minutes from Surry Hills cafés, ten from the CBD, a short walk to galleries, terraces, and the kind of Sydney you don't find on a tourist map.

The room is the calm bit. The neighbourhood is the reason you'll come back.

Book direct → link in bio.

You don't need summer to fall for this city.

Cold mornings, golden light, long lunches that turn into long walks. Winter is when Sydney slows down enough to actually be felt.

Stay in Redfern. Walk everywhere. Skip the postcard version.
