An Update by Robe 2 Recovery:
Robeâs very own veteran respite program continues to tick along in the background of this small community town. Over the years since itâs inception, there have been countless offers of locals reaching out, whether itâs donations of accommodation, cafĂ© & restaurant vouchers and activities, an offer of a tour from a local, or even a homemade slice or two.
Their annual events, including the now famous Robe vs Hatherleigh ANZAC round footy and netball event, Ambrose Veteran Golf Day and the Australia Day Barefoot Bowls tournament, are continually well supported. Locals come along, buy a raffle ticket and have a good day out, our wineries and tourism houses donate goods, and monies are raised for veteran support.
What we do:
Robe 2 Recovery is a local volunteer community group that provides vital respite accommodation stays in Robe for those Australian veterans & their families who need support.
The small seaside town of Robe SA welcomes our returned veterans so that when they visit, they know that we truly recognise their contribution to our nation, and are thanked for their service.
Accommodation is locally donated or subsidised, as is our welcoming basket of goodies, activities & vouchers.
We would love your support:
R2R is a not-for-profit organisation & registered charity. Your donation is 100% tax deductable and will have a positive impact on veterans who have served to protect the Australian way of life. Donations will allow us to provide a stay in a great country town where everyone says gday.
So far this year:
We have had 15 veteran stays, with more in the pipeline. Itâs hard to say thanks to everyone, but we honestly appreciate the big and the small contributions that come to R2R each day. We canât share personal deets of veterans who visit all the time, as you can appreciate that privacy and having space is a driving factor.
Board Member? Or maybe be a Friend of R2R?:
Everyone is time poor these days. But maybe you can do a bit now and then. We would love more board members who would be keen to become involved in supporting the veteran community. But also, we would love to know if you can help ânow and thenâ so that we can reach out to see if you can help with the odd job.
What we need at the moment are a few little things:
Someone to make a cake or slice or jam to add to our baskets every couple of months. The more we have on our list, the easier it is on everyone.
A social media helper would be handy too. Having someone else a bit more active on the ground to report on our sponsors etc and what we are doing in community.
We are reaching out a bit, because we know there are plenty of you that have offered in the past, to help out if we need you, and we think to keep this wonderful community program going forward in the right direction, we need extra hands.

The Board Members of R2R are President Jacqui Bateman, Secretary Jo Edwards, Treasurer Ewen McLarty, with board members Kerrie Boyd, Dennis Barton, An Tran, Lonny Peel and Justin Brown.
