Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

The 2026 theme, ‘Living Our Truth’, highlights the importance of storytelling, strong voices, and the sharing of knowledge across generations.

Together, we can celebrate local language and culture as a source of strength, resilience and identity for children.

Tarooki is situated on the lands of the Bunganditj (Boandik) and Meintangk peoples. We are deeply grateful for their stewardship of the land on which we live and work. The name ‘Tarooki’ comes from a Boandik word meaning ‘seagull’.

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week in Australia.

Research shows that attending community events reduces the risk of loneliness and social isolation by 89%. Camps and retreats can be powerful tools for building connection.

There are simple steps we can take:
▪️Invite a friend to join you on a community or church retreat
▪️Create a welcoming arrival experience, with warm faces and clear signage
▪️Allow space for informal social time alongside structured activities
▪️At mealtimes, sit with someone you haven’t talked to before
▪️When you return home, reach out to someone you connected with at camp.

Tarooki’s chapel/conference facility comes with plenty of natural light and a beautiful view!

A range of equipment is available for use, including a data projector, sound system, microphones, whiteboard, round tables. The room can accommodate up to 120 people.

Winter woolies time here!

If you're in Mount Gambier or Penola this morning, we hope you're rugged up! 🥶

🌡 Mount Gambier shivered through its coldest morning in two years, with temperatures reaching -1.1°C just after 7am.

Penola hit a low of -1.2°C around 7.30am, with the temperatures still sitting below 0°C as of 8am. ❄️

It's History Festival month in South Australia, so we thought we'd share a bit about the history of Tarooki.

Our campsite opened in Robe in November 1960 and was originally known as the Methodist Church Youth Camp. Methodist leaders envisioned the site as a modern outreach opportunity that would facilitate Christian education and fellowship.

Many volunteers helped to convert a woolshed which became the camp’s main complex.

The name ‘Tarooki’ – chosen in 2003 – comes from a Boandik word meaning ‘seagull’.

In June 2009, building commenced on our chapel/conference facility, which opened in February 2010.
