October Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores working bee! 🐝

This month we’ll be meeting at the Truemans Road beach carpark for a beach clean-up, picking up litter and anything else that doesn’t belong on our beach! It will involve walking along the beach, sand, and dunes of the foreshore.  🌊☀️
 
It will be a rewarding morning with something for everyone! As well as an excellent opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and make a positive impact on our beautiful foreshore. 🌿🌿
 
Date: Tuesday 20th October 2026
Time: 9:30am- 11am (followed by morning tea)
Where: Meet at the Beach Carpark at the end of Truemans Road, Point Nepean Rd, Tootgarook

What to bring:
* Comfortable clothes suitable for moving through semi-thick vegetation
* Hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle
* Gloves if you’d prefer to use your own (we’ll have plenty available)

After the working bee, we’ll gather for a delicious morning tea, so stick around for a cuppa and some tasty snacks.
Whether you’re a regular or it’s your first time joining us, everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Join us again for our September Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores working bee! 🐝 🌱
This month we’ll be mulching and revitalising the garden beds through the campground in section C 🌿🍃
 
📆 Tuesday 15th September 2026
⏰ 9:30am- 11am (followed by morning tea)
📍 Meet at the Section C Beach Carpark, opposite Rose St, Point Nepean Rd, Tootgarook

What to bring:
-          - Comfortable clothes suitable for moving through semi-thick vegetation

Shout out to the fantastic team from the Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores working bee yesterday!
We tackled 12 different invasive species in the banksia woodlands and were spoilt with the winter sunshine!

UPDATE on the H5 Bird Flu

DEECA confirmed on 15 August that H5 bird flu has been detected in a wild bird on the Mornington Peninsula in both Saint Andrews Beach and Dromana, along with confirmed cases on Phillip Island.

The foreshore managed by Capel Sound has not yet reported any positive cases, however dead birds have been found and reported.
We will be identifying reported dead birds with a flagged star-picket, if you see these marked on the beach, keep clear, keep moving and please keep your dog’s away.

What we’re asking of everyone using the foreshore:

- Avoid contact with sick or dead wild birds and the area around them. Do not touch them, do not move them and please don’t bring to the foreshore office.

- Always keep dogs on lead. A dog will reach a carcass before you can stop it and can carry the virus on its coat and paws.

- Record what you see: location, species, how many.

- Report it to call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888 or online at https://forms.bio.vic.gov.au/wildlife-influenza...

Report any cluster of five or more sick or dead birds of any species. Report even a single sick or dead seabird, waterbird, shorebird, bird of prey, or marine mammal such as a seal or dolphin. DEECA assesses every report and decides whether testing is needed.

There have been no detections in poultry or livestock. Human infections are rare and come from close contact with infected birds, so keeping your distance is the whole strategy.

Join us again for our August Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores working bee! 🐝 🌱

This month we’ll be doing a w**d sweep through a section of the Banksia woodlands, tackling a variety of invasive species popping up in the area. 🌊🌀

Happy World Ranger Day!! 🌼

Working to manage and protect the beautiful Capel Sound Foreshore is a privilege we don’t take for granted! Everyday is a new challenge and experience, working together to maintain and protect this special place. 🌊

Today is and we want to say a big thank you to all the Rangers out there and the hard work you do to support our local environments.💚

Next time you pass through the foreshore, don’t forget to wave hello to the awesome Rangers at Capel Sound and Whitecliffs Foreshore! 🌀🌱

Don’t forget to come along to our beach clean up tomorrow 9:30am with the Friends of Capel Sound Foreshore! 🌊🌱🌀

Meet at the beach carpark opposite Morris Street on the Nepean Highway (Section G).

All equipment and morning tea will be supplied, so rock up for a fun morning helping us keep our stunning foreshore rubbish free! 🐚☀️
