Thank you so much to our fabulous Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores team who came out to help us tackle the Shade Crassula at this month’s working bee! 🌿🧤

It was a great morning of hand w**ding, and we even lucked out with a little bit of sunshine along the way. ☀️

We enjoyed a well-earned cup of tea afterwards and hope to see you all again next month! 💚

Jelly on the beach! 🪼🌀🩵

We’re seeing lots of these beautiful Haeckel’s jellyfish washed up on the foreshore at the moment.

Super abundant in Port Phillip Bay, these stunning jelly’s are named after the famous German biologist and artist Ernst Haeckel, who described them as an “exuberant yet fragile beauty of Nature”.

They are known to be virtually harmless to humans and can grow up to 40cm in diameter.

We’re most likely seeing lots of them washed up on shore at the moment following last week’s strong onshore winds and currents which has forced the jellyfish into the shallower waters.

Join us again for our May Friends of Capel Sound Foreshores working bee! 🐝🪏

This month, we’ll be returning to the Banksia Woodlands to continue tackling a variety of invasive w**d species in the area. 🌿
This will involve a variety of tasks including some gentle hand w**ding and some more active woody w**d removal as well. 🧤 🧤

It will be a rewarding morning with something for everyone! As well as an excellent opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and make a positive impact on our beautiful foreshore.

📆 Date: Tuesday 19th May 2026
⏰ Time: 9:30am- 11am (followed by morning tea)
📍 Where: Truemans Road Foreshore carpark, Tootgarook.

What to bring:
Comfortable clothes suitable for moving through semi-thick vegetation
Hat, sunglasses, and a water bottle
Gloves if you’d prefer to use your own (we’ll have plenty available)

After the working bee, we’ll gather for a delicious morning tea, so stick around for a cuppa and some tasty snacks. ☕️ 🍪

Ever spotted an eel in our local creek?!

These incredible creatures are Short-finned Eels (Anguilla australis), are spotted annually in Chinamans Creek and are one of our most fascinating species found along the Capel Sound Foreshore.

Earlier this year, Rangers watched these amazing eels leave the creek and begin their 3000km journey up Australia’s east coast to the Coral Sea to breed, which is incredibly the only place where all Australian and New Zealand fresh water eels spawn. 🌊🪸

These eels spend most of their life in our local creeks and estuaries before heading out to sea when they mature!

Next time you’re walking the foreshore, have a look in to see if you can spot one of our special eels! 🌀

Yesterday we officially opened the Truemans Road Project at Capel Sound Foreshores Committee.

With facilities under increasing pressure as visitors to the Mornington Peninsula increase, Capel Sound Foreshores with the Victorian Government have funded the redevelopment of the precinct, creating a playground and wider community gathering and recreation space that is accessible and inclusive for all members of our community.

This has been achieved by providing a foreshore playground for children to play and explore, a wheelchair accessible boardwalk with low seating benches, along with additional BBQ, picnic tables and increased lawn area for all people to experience. Additionally, the project has provided environmental benefits by revegetation of the dune with indigenous plants, with construction of dune fencing to help stabilize the dune.

Make sure you have a look when you visit us next!
