An early start to explore Caves Creek - the caves are not deep but interesting nonetheless.

Located just off Gooandra Trail approximately 5km from Snowy Mountain Highway.
This hut was reputedly moved to its present location in 1913 from the Lobs Hole/Yarangobilly road junction by bullock wagon and is located near the site of the ruins of one of the oldesst miners huts in the Snowy Mountains. It was virtually in ruins by the early 1970's and has since been restored by the the Kosciuszko Huts Association. This is my final hut explored within the boundaries of the Tantangara 1:25 000 Topographic Map. Nothing like saving the best until last. My next map I will explore is the Denison 1:25 000 Topographic Map.

These 3 brumbies seem to be the average brumby mob size in Kosciuszko National Park at the moment. Whilst I still see brumby mobs around I cannot comprehend how there can possibly be anywhere near the numbers the government will have us believe. On this day last week I walked an area of around 25 square kilometres and observed only these three.

Looking over the dam and spillway of Talbingo Dam at around 600m above sea level. This dam will be the lower reservoir of the massive Snowy 2:0 project with water coming down from around 1200m above sea level from Tantangara Reservoir to power 3 million homes for a week, acting as a giant battery to support Australia's grid as coal-fired power stations retire. When there is excess power in the grid due to an abundance of sunshine and/or wind this power will be used to pump the water back up to Tantangara Reservoir.

I set out once again to find the ruins of Traces Hut - this time armed with my trusty 1:25,000 Tantangara Topographic Map. Whilst there is no real structure left, a fair amount of rubble and rubbish still remains. I haven't been able to discover any history in regards to Traces Hut - when or who built it? Or how it met its demise? If anyone has any information to add it will be much appreciated.
