The surcharge disappears from the receipt. The cost of accepting that payment doesn’t.

Banks and payment providers still collect fees. Small businesses have to absorb the remaining cost or build it into their prices.

Yes, some fee caps are coming down. That’s welcome. But “just absorb it” isn’t much comfort when you’re already stretching every dollar.

We absorb it, our margins shrink.
We raise prices, we cop the backlash.

I want customers to get relief. We’re customers too. But small business owners don’t have an endless pot of money out the back.

Behind these businesses are families, wages and people working bloody hard to keep the doors open.

We deserve more than being the ones left to make the headline work.
