There is a giant kangaroo, a wounded spirit boy & a thylacine pup behind the name of one of our rooms.

In Indigenous Nuenonne tradition from Bruny Island, a young thylacine saved Palana, son of the creator god Moinee, from an attack by the kangaroo Tarna.

To heal the pup, Palana marked its back with ochre, ash & his own blood. Those marks became the first stripes on a thylacine (Tasmanian tiger). 🐅 In language, a young thylacine is called a corinna.

Our Corinna Suite carries the name.

This historical suite features a king bed, claw-foot bath, walk-in robe, views over Mount Wellington, playing fields & our stunning rose garden.

1861: Tasmania set out to farm salmon...but ended up with trout instead. 160-odd years later, we're still glad it did.

📍 Salmon Ponds Heritage Hatchery & Gardens in the Derwent Valley is 40 minutes from Hobart, the oldest working hatchery in the country, with a museum, a café, gift shop, & one resident platypus who steals the show!

Family-friendly & you can feed the fish too. 🐟 Plus you can visit Plenty C***r after your visit if you fancy a bevvie - it's just over the road.

👉 Definitely worth the drive if you're staying here with us. Just one of the many things to do / see / explore around Hobart!

🎬 Before Hollywood, Errol Flynn was a kid swimming laps in Sandy Bay.

The son of a University of Tasmania biology professor, he was born five minutes from where our Flynn 1909 Suite now stands. There's still a memorial to him at Short Beach, an easy walk from the hotel.

The suite carries his name & comprises antique furnishings, a beautiful King bed & a fully-equipped bathroom complete with a claw-footed bath.
