Three hundred women pooled $2.3 million to buy a 1,000-year-old château — and built an adult summer camp.
More than 300 women collectively contributed approximately $2.3 million to purchase a 1,000-year-old château in southern France. The result is Camp Château — a women-only retreat offering six-day, all-inclusive stays where participants shape their own experience: kayaking, workshops, time in the gardens, or simply existing in a 1,000-year-old building that belongs collectively to the women who funded it.
The ownership model is the significant structural detail. Participants didn't just buy tickets — they collectively contributed to the purchase and restoration, creating a shared stake in the property rather than a conventional hospitality transaction.
Camp Château has since expanded beyond the original property with plans to host thousands of participants across multiple locations.
Three hundred women decided they wanted something that didn't exist. They bought it and built it themselves. The waiting list for the next thing they decide to build will be long.
