After more than 185mm of rain last weekend, the lake is once again full of water. Perfect for sunrise and sunset, and it’s a perfect time to visit the mallee as the magical greening of the land coming alive again in bursts of green and gold is stunning, and the weather cools too which is a bonus….

It’s been very hot and very windy and dry out at Lake Tyrrell but that is usual for Feb giving it amazing salt formations and spectacular colours….

🦅Look who flew in!
A group of bird-watching tourists touched down at Lake Tyrrell yesterday, spotted by one of our keen-eyed outdoor team members who’s always proud to promote our beautiful patch of Buloke. 🐦✨

Birdwatchers and photographers are currently flocking to Lake Tyrrell this spring, drawn by the shimmering saltpan’s vast reflections and the birdlife that thrives around its edges.

While the lake is world-renowned for its mirror-like landscapes, the region is quietly earning a reputation among bird enthusiasts seeking the challenge of spotting and photographing the species that call this unique environment home.

Among the favourites are the:
🐣White-fronted Chat, a salt-country specialist that feeds along the shimmering edges of the lake
🐣 Blue-winged Parrot, known for its flashes of emerald and cobalt across the Mallee sky.
🐣 Singing Honeyeater
🐣Pied Butcherbird
🐣Black-shouldered Kite
🐣You might even see a Nankeen Kestrel hovering over the flats.

When shallow water remains into October, the lake may also welcome waders such as Red-necked Avocets or Banded Stilts, while Silver Gulls often breed on small islands in the centre of the lake.
