Compass Rose.
Is a figure on a compass, map or nautical chart, used to display the orientation of the cardinal directions and their intermediate points. Every nautical chart has one. When the owner was in Western Australia working for the prestigious pearling company “Paspaley pearls” he made his fortune collecting wild pearls from the depths of the Indian Ocean. Based out of the iconic town of broome these heroic men and women would risk there lives in the pursuit of the world’s greatest pearl.
A pearl is a precious gemstone. Unlike all other precious gemstones, it is formed inside of a living being, either an oyster or a mussel. The salt water pearl shell is the most sort after of them all.
Compass Rose was the name given to this area by the Japanese hardhat divers from the early 1900s and was the outer most dangerous and difficult region to find these quality pearls, only the most experienced , brave and conditioned men would tackle these treacherous and deep conditions. Prevailing winds,sharks,crocodiles, Irukandji and depth in excess of 40mt these brave soles battled the Ocean to find these wild oysters that would produce what the world knows of today as the heart of the ocean “the pearl” Compass Rose was purchased in 2015 with the earnings from the owners tiresome efforts on and under the ocean and was renovated in 2019 in the hopes to bring back some of that history to the port stephen’s area. Inside the house you will instantly feel like your under the water there are lobsters,crabs,fishing nets and all types of shells on display including the infamous pearl shell and if you look closely there are several natural pearls on display to. The owner Holliday rents this incredible home out over the holiday season in the stunning shoal Bay Area to for fill his adventuresome needs and travels Australia with his family and pets for there next big adventure.
