This is a bit of a soppy post but this video brought back soo many memories so I felt like sharing a few thoughts
If you’ve been here from the beginning, thank you so much for all your support over the years. It means the world! And if you’re new here, hello and thanks for following along
I’m Lauren, owner and designer of Salt at Shoal Bay. My husband Michael and I bought and renovated Salt, alongside my parents over 10 years ago
This moment changed our lives in ways we never could have imagined. Back then we only had two girls (now we have 4!!) Little voices. Little feet. Running around the old deck talking to my Dad
After we walked through the property, I remember thinking this could be something really special
We had a vision to create a unique holiday property that could be a beautiful experience for guests, hopefully a little residual income for our family and somewhere to holiday ourselves when vacant. But it turned out Salt was rarely vacant, which was incredible and something we never expected!
What we didn’t realise was how much this property would shape our lives, the opportunities it would create or the paths it would lead us down. It’s allowed us to travel more as a family and for me to build a career doing something I genuinely love
The mentoring and consulting side of this journey has unexpectedly become one of the most beautiful parts of it all. Connecting with like minded hosts, sharing ideas and passing on information I genuinely know will help others. I’ve never been one to gatekeep info (If you say you like my shirt, I’ll tell you where it’s from and probably send you the link too, just in case 😂)
More than anything though, it’s been such a privilege becoming part of so many other people’s stories too. Salt has been the backdrop for weddings, milestone birthdays, family reunions, workshops, retreats, anniversaries, proposals and so many special moments.
Over a decade later and sometimes it still feels like yesterday.
What started as a little idea and a very old property somehow became such a huge part of our lives and so many other people’s memories too.
If you’ve ever stayed at Salt, thank you for being pa
