This week is and this year’s theme is 'Get Up, Stand Up, Show UP!"

We all must continue to Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! for systemic change. Whether it’s seeking proper environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism—we must do it together.

It’s also time to celebrate those who have driven and led change in our communities over generations—they have been the heroes and champions of change, of equal rights and even basic human rights. 🖤💛❤️

Water safety role models, especially young people, play such an important part in educating our communities.

Here are three simple tips from our lifeguards that can help you and your friends stay safe around the water.

✅ Tip 1: Swim between the red and yellow flags whenever possible
✅ Tip 2: Read the safety signs to understand the dangers
✅ Tip 3: Put your hand up for help if you get into trouble in the water

There are so many ways to have fun around the water this summer! 🛶

December is Water Safety Month which reminds us all to RETHINK the risks around water.

Kids can be especially hard to keep track of at the pool, the beach or the river, so it's important to actively supervise them at all times. ❗

We're so looking forward to seeing kids enjoying the water all throughout the summer!

Whether your visiting the pool or the beach or simply having a bath at home, please remember that it only takes 20 seconds for a child to drown, even in shallow water.

Always keep children under the age of 5 years within arms reach. ❗

Did you know that the Poppy originated as a YMCA idea?
How? Well, while reading Punch magazine, YMCA worker Moina Michael, came across a poem written by Canadian Lt Col John McCrae in 1915 which begins: “In Flanders fields the poppies blow, between the crosses, row on row.”
Immediately she made a personal pledge to 'keep the faith' and vowed always to wear a red poppy as a sign of remembrance.
So today, please wear or place a poppy for Remembrance Day, to show gratitude and respect to the Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed so much for us.

Challenge yourself this weekend and participate in the Get Outdoors for Open Doors virtual 5km fun run! 🏃

The Y offers a great range of programs and services for people of all ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to participate so we’re helping provide equal access to all members of the community.

All money raised will go towards YMCA Open Doors to help those experiencing disadvantage get subsidised access to our programs and services.🔥

Challenge yourself, and make it less of a challenge for them.👍

On this Saturday, 30 October, you can run anywhere, anytime.
