A little something from the Smithton Visitor Information Centre. We wanted to share a new initiative from Circular Head Council - the Circular Head Dark Sky Journey.

The initiative aims to celebrate and protect one of our regionโ€™s greatest natural assets, our incredible night skies, while creating new opportunities for visitors to experience Circular Head after dark.

With our remote location, low levels of light pollution and spectacular landscapes, Circular Head is already a fantastic place for stargazing. The Dark Sky Journey is about exploring how we can build on this and showcase our night skies as part of the visitor experience.

We are at the very beginning of our journey and would like to start sharing information and getting the community more involved in conversations!

Itโ€™s an exciting opportunity for our local tourism industry, and weโ€™ll keep you updated as the initiative develops.

You can read more about the initiative here:

No crowds, no noise - just mist rolling off the hills and the tide easing in along the Tarkine coast. ๐ŸŒŠ
Moments like this are what this place is made for: wide open, unhurried, and a little bit wild at the edges.

Stanley Wine Bar isn't just a place to enjoy a great drop, it's an experience. Filled with retro furnishings, upcycled antiques, and cozy corners, every inch of this place tells a story. Grab a glass, pull up a plush armchair, and soak in the rustic coastal charm.

๐ŸŽ‰ Weโ€™re thrilled to share that weโ€™ve WON the Peopleโ€™s Choice award in the 2026 Tassieโ€™s Top Tourism Town Awards! ๐Ÿ†

Thank you to everyone who voted for Stanley - nestled at the base of an ancient volcanic plug on a Bass Strait peninsula with some of the cleanest air on Earth. Our little fishing village has rugged coastal scenery, historic cottages, two pristine beaches, a resident fairy penguin colony, and unbeatable local produce from Cape Grim Beef to fresh Tassie seafood. ๐Ÿง๐ŸŒŠ

A small town, a huge heart โ€“ and this win is all thanks to you. ๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations to Stanley, WINNER of the People's Chioice award in the 2026 Tassie's Top Tourism Town Awards, with thanks to awards partner Bishopp and category sponsor Tourism Industry Council Tasmania!

A spectacular peninsula in Bass Strait boasts some of the cleanest air in the world. Nestled at the base of an ancient volcanic plug, lies the charming fishing village of Stanley in northwest Tasmania. Here, the hero is the ancient land itself โ€“ wild and rocky outcrops adorn stunning seascapes. Historic cottages create a picturesque frame around the town's two pristine beaches, and local residents include a fairy penguin colony. Stanley boasts world-class culinary delights, including freshly caught Tasmanian seafood, Cape Grim Beef and local artisan produce. A small haven that packs a powerful punch for making family memories.

Everyone looks up in the Tarkine - but the real magic might be under your feet. ๐Ÿ„

Autumn is fungi season, and the rainforest floor puts on a proper show: coral fungi, brilliant waxcaps, pale caps sprouting from the moss, and the tiny electric-blue Pixie's Parasol (Mycena interrupta) clustered on damp, rotting logs. Every colour and shape you can imagine, all quietly keeping this ancient forest alive.

Which is your favourite find out here? Drop a photo in the comments - we'd love to see them!
