Within the Arakoon State Recreation Area is the historical Trial Bay Gaol and the popular Trial Bay Kiosk - a great place for breakfast, lunch or tea. Just off the Coast is Fish Rock, world renowned for it's scuba diving through a 130m long cave. There are many small shops including great cafes and restaurants in the centre of town as well as a new shopping centre on the edge of town.

🌿 Discover Monument Hill Walking Track – Arakoon National Park 🌊

Looking for a beautiful walk to add to your holiday itinerary? The Monument Hill walking track in Arakoon National Park is a lovely coastal walk offering spectacular views, fresh sea air, fascinating history and plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife.

Starting near historic Trial Bay Gaol, the 1.4 km track winds through coastal heathland and casuarinas before reaching the historic monument on Monument Hill. Keep your eyes and ears open along the way – you may spot kangaroos, native wildlife and cheeky kookaburras enjoying the surrounding bushland. And if you’re visiting during whale season, keep an eye out towards the coast for the chance to spot whales passing by. 🦘🦜🐋

Along the track, you’ll also see beautiful flannel flowers, which were planted by German internees during World War I because they reminded them of the edelweiss flowers of home. 🌼

The stone monument was built by the internees in memory of fellow detainees who sadly passed away while interned at Trial Bay Gaol.

🥾 Walk details:
• 1.4 km one way
• Approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour
• Moderate grade with some short rocky and steeper sections
