Still open for business....but maybe not next year. Trying to find a way to retire and have a holiday myself. Thank you for all the support for my B&B business & myself over the last 18 years of managing Country bakehouse accommodation. You may have noticed my website is closed. I have also shut down my Domain. My website Manager was always trying to swindle me & it got too stressful to keep my site open.

Northern Areas Council Forum in the Hall last night. I actually enjoyed it. Huge crowd turned up...lots of new residents as well as the older faces. We shared our views on what we would like to see in the future for our small town. More amenities, more tourism & a caravan park, greater access to medical accessibility and transport to neighbouring towns and the city....in fact, all the entitlements that all country residents should have which the government have taken away from us for the past 60 years. Railways, hospitals, roadhouses, shops and post offices. We have improvements such as a Sporting Complex and a wonderful Solar heated Swimming Pool. Luckily our closed churches are now being renovated with apartments added for tourists to stay. The Government needs to look back at the damage caused by closing Railways and medical facilities. So many semis now on the roads & freeways causing high costs to roads and danger to the travelling public.😞

Small businesses and country towns are struggling with continuing increases in the costs of essential services & food prices. Now we are faced with extra increases to the cost of electricity, interest rate hikes to mortgages & high regional fuel prices. This is slowing down the flow of tourism to our Country towns.

What is the Government doing about our economy and the promises to keep electricity affordable? All those promises to cut the high price rises? Absolutely blind & deaf....like the "hear no evil, see no evil monkeys? Living in their renovated houses with their Battery Solar Power & high income while our Post offices close, our medical services close leaving the elderly & pensioners with more travel costs in order to pay their accounts, find a banking facility to withdraw some cash or have a health check at a Medical Centre.
It hasn't finished yet. While the Prime Minister takes his 18th flight overseas since coming into office - more small businesses will close and Country towns will be left with no facilities at all. About time you too a drive around Australia Prime Minister Albanese and paid some attention to your own country.

Happy New year for 2023.
With borders open in 2021 Country bakehouse Accommodation became busier than ever before.
Travellers, Heysen walkers, bike riders and new locals. Rick & Dave are the Store owners of the vibrant coffee Shop & Cafe in the grocery store. It's a great place to meet up with friends or travelers who stop for a coffee break or lunch. Our park is often filled with visitors enjoying a coffee & picnic & the town oval provides a free space for camping in caravans. Fletch & Angie are the popular owners of the Spalding Hotel, providing quality meals for locals & visitors to our town Thursday - Sunday and cars line the street on Friday nights when Rick & Dave provide Friday night meals of roasts in Winter & now Asian takeaways in Summer. In 2022 we also had the Film Production Crew from "The New Boy" stay in town and some scenes filmed along the River Broughton.
Lots happening in 2023 with the Mawson Bike Riders coming in May. We haven't seen them for a while since Covid came to SA. Would you believe we also have the "Fringe", not only in Adelaide but also coming to Spalding in March 2023. The once United Church will come alive with Music. With Renovations ongoing, the Church is now to become an entertainment center and there will be performances taking place in the Church Hall. The Catholic Church is also being Renovated & French Art Classes have been on going.
Many new residents have moved into Spalding, buying houses as they come on the market. Why not visit Spalding, enjoy a coffee or meal, stay for a while, walk or bike ride on the Trails & soak up the country air & scenery along the River Broughton.

"New Boy Productions" booked the whole month of November so I finally found time this week to clean my own farm house kitchen floor. Also with new floor covering in the B&B kitchen now completed, I can also stop crawling around the floor every 3rd day, with a cloth & bucket.

Shared a wonderful afternoon around the Broughton Valley River where they were filming 'The New Boy'. It was great to meet the Film Crew & the actors at the site and watch a sequence of the film being caught on camera. The trodden grass along the roadside is where the sequence had to be filmed several times to get all the right angles & the actions of the little boys who were acting out a scene for the movie. The 2 day filming was interrupted by the Hutt River which flooded into the Broughton Junction causing higher levels & discoloration of the water.
