We’re excited to hear that our Shearwater birds are back! Their burrows are at our front doorstep and watching them fly in at sunset each evening is truly magical 😊

Phillip Island’s globetrotting short-tailed shearwaters have officially touched down, after flying over 12,000km from feeding grounds in waters around Alaska. It seems last year’s late arrival of the birds was not a once-off. This year, they also landed early in October, rather than their long-term standard date September 24.

Over the summer months, more than 1.5 million short-tailed shearwaters call Phillip Island home, nesting in sand dune burrows along the coast. Locals and visitors can look to the skies just after sunset to witness the spectacular sight and sounds of them flying in after a fishing trip.

Nature Parks Deputy Research Director Dr Duncan Sutherland and his team will head out next week to monitor several study sites to gain a picture of the birds’ overall condition after their long-haul flight.

Happy first day of Summer 🎉! We recently had My Guesthouse’s personal interior designer Renee help us do some updates. We have gone for a mid century style which we love. Some R&D required to make sure our guests will be relaxed while watching over ocean views.

Cameron & I (Trish) have had the absolute privilege of owning Phillip Island Waterfront House for 4 1/2 years now and have loved sharing it with our guests. Many have returned year after year and we love how they treat our home as if it's their own - this is exactly what we want!
