Tara Village Tara Village closed on the 3rd February 1989. This page is in memory for a great holiday resort and In 1963 East Homes was bought and in 19??

it was rebuilt into Tara Lodge over the years it was built in sections, till the opening of the new section which saw the resort span from Beach Rd to Cavill Ave in 1982 then it was called Tara Village. And after 1985 revamp of the disco and the new bar being added it was renamed Tara Resort. The disco was named "Scarlet's Nightclub" and the new bar was named either O'Hara's bar or Rhett's bar whi

ch was named after Clark Gable an actor in "Gone With The Wind” (1936). We had many meetings with management and as the resort's name was Tara Village, we all decided to go with the movie theme of Gone with the Wind. The house and plantation in the movie that the O'Hara's lived in was called Tara. Meaning & History

Keep in mind that the original owners and builders of Tara Lodge where Irish and they named the building Tara after a hill in Ireland. Anglicized form of the Irish place name "Teamhair", which possibly means "elevated place" in Gaelic. This was the name of the sacred hill near Dublin where the Irish high kings resided. It was popularized as a given name by the novel 'Gone with the Wind' (1936) and the subsequent movie adaptation (1939), in which it is the name of the O'Hara plantation.
