Strange Days Indeed…
We will be closing our home to guests to take an early and extended (but eminently sensible) break. At this stage we have sporadic bookings through to the end of April, but will not be taking more after that time. We’ll close sooner if the cancellations continue to come in. Can we afford to do this? No, but we can’t afford not to.
This has been, financially and emotionally, an incredibly difficult summer for us (and all regional Australians and family businesses). Drought, fire and flood had already brought us to our knees. The unprecedented community effort and shift in reality required to address and contain the coronavirus crisis has forced us to say, enough. We cannot ask people to travel for comfort and relaxation during a time when all reasoned advice is that it is safer for the community for people to stay at home if they can.
We’ll use the time to enjoy a more relaxed harvest and preservation season, enjoy each other’s company, and continue to work through the never ending list of projects to improve ourselves and our home and garden (at least, the ones that don’t cost anything!). We feel the need to be kind to ourselves, and stay safe and well, and also to participate in protecting those in our community who are most vulnerable right now.
We don’t know when we will reopen. We are hoping for better days (or at least increased clarity) in Spring.
We hope that at the end of this, we still have a home and we still have a business. But at the end of the day, if we still have each other, all will be well.
We’re thinking of you.
