*** TOP TIP ***

TRAINING OR COMPETING IN THE HEAT

➡ If you are riding or competing in the hot weather, wet your horse all over before you start warming up. This will keep your cooler and will also mean they don't sweat as much.
➡ You should also stop to re-wet your horse after say 10-15 min.
➡ You should also re-wet your horse before starting to compete e.g. especially in longer duration events such as endurance or cross-country.
➡ The best indicator of how hot your horse is is their breathing. Hard-blowing = high temperature.
➡ For cooling after exercise the rule is as much water on until your horse's breathing starts to return to normal. Use buckets or hoses. Use ice to cool the water if available. Don't waste time stopping to scrape - it only slows down cooling.

The one thing about Winx is you always know where you stand with her! Luckily she loves her routine physio sessions . Here, earlier on the week I was releasing the front portion of the shoulder and one of the deep pectoral in preparation for her exhibition gallop tomorrow She literally does her stretching herself as he bends her neck around to maximize the effect!

To achieve full you must achieve full ! Star employee is seen her performing an extension and flexion provocation test of primarily the region. This is a great assessment tool of the overall movement of the spine to direct . The equine patient has obvious movement in some regions and is quite rigid in other areas. It humours me in people and especially horses when people use the phrase ‘it’s out in the back’ or even worse ‘it’s out in the hip!!!’ Correct and accurate descriptions of back pain such as muscle , movement restriction, movement dysfunction, stiffness, asymmetry, arthritis, kissing spines, etc etc etc are great and should be used regularly, however,
the only time something is ‘OUT’ is if it is fractured or dislocated or worse both!!! And trust me you would not need a second opinion to confirm it!!! Yes when you provide high velocity thrust to a joint/joints demonstrating stiffness you may hear a pop like sound which is nothing more than a gaseous release and has an immediate opioid effect and yes it feels good, and yes can assist in restoring range. This is NOT the being put back in!!! If you have a therapist that uses this terminology then get a new therapist!

This is a great exercise to add to your routine..! Joint range of motion is crucial so don’t ignore extension of the upper neck. We place horses in flexion under saddle a lot however we rarely allow them to extend as they naturally would in the wild browsing for food. This guy is one of the larger personalities Tom Melbourne doing some stretches for that photo finish!
