HAPPY STAR WARS DAY!

26/01/2026

26 January, Australia day is the most important national holiday in Australia.

The country celebrates the day when the first British ships arrived in 1788 to Botany Bay in present day Sydney, and established the first colony in NSW. In other words, this is the celebration of Australia's national pride, and this day is about the greatness of being Australian.

This day also commemorates Australian multiculturalism and acceptance, and thus many citizenship ceremonies and award presentations also take place on 26 January. Australia Day is a huge celebration, there are parties, concerts, parades in all cities with national flags everywhere, as the whole nation celebrates its existence The day always ends with fireworks in the evening, and a good hangover the next day.

LEST WE FORGET THE ANIMALS OF WAR!

Animals played vital roles in World War I, including large animals like horses, mules, and camels for transport, and smaller animals like pigeons and dogs for communication and detecting explosives.

Dogs:
Dogs were trained to carry messages and lay telephone wires, trained to sniff out explosives, locate fallen soldiers, and deliver messages.

Horses, mules, and donkeys:
Millions of horses, along with mules and donkeys, were used to transport soldiers, supplies, and artillery, especially in less-developed areas like the Middle East.
More than 8 million horses, mules and donkeys died in World War I alone.

Pigeons:
Homing pigeons were crucial for carrying vital messages between the front lines and headquarters, sometimes while wounded.
