I started planning my own maternity photoshoot when I was about 7 months pregnant. Being someone who is passionate about the environment and striving to live a waste free/minimalist lifestyle, I didn't want to buy new dresses that I woul
d only wear once. I searched many second hand and fashion rental websites, but nothing was quite as nice as the gowns I envisaged for my maternity photos, something flowy, feminine and romantic that is perfect for an outdoor photo shoot. So I started this idea of hiring out maternity gowns for maternity photo sessions and other special occasions to mama to be’s in Australia. I wanted to help expecting mums out there to save money and look incredible, as well as to reduce the amount of textile waste we create as a whole. With this idea in mind, I stumbled across beautiful maternity designer brands like Fillyboo Maternity who also happens to be a sustainable fashion label. We have also included dresses from much loved desginer brands such as Coven&Co, Spell and Reclamation. In order to make Mama Rentals a zero waste business, I make a conscious effort to reuse, recycle or compost all mail satchels whenever possible. All of our mail satchels, shipping labels and even packing tapes are made of compostable materials that will biodegrade within 3-6 months. I do this in the hope that it would inspire my customers to think more about zero waste living, as well as to ensure I leave as little of a carbon footprint as possible while running a business.
