Jase Pearson, owner of Pearson Automotive in Brisbane, has successfully operated his automotive repair business for 28 years. While the business has enjoyed steady growth and expansion during this time, Jase recognised that staff retention was hindering its potential.

To tackle this issue, Jase sought guidance from Kelvin Millar, Industry Workforce Advisor for the Automotive industry.

Together, they developed a comprehensive workforce plan, which led Jase to apply for the HR Support Grant for Small Business.

With the help of the grant, Jase and Jordan, HR consultant Jordan Lowry from Blackstone Business Group, developed a strategy based on the principles of building team cohesion.

As a result, Jase has implemented a strategy centred on building team cohesion, effectively fostering a culture of teamwork and appreciation among his staff. “Since implementing the staff appreciation system, we have seen real improvements in both attendance and morale.” Says Jase. “Working with Kelvin and Jordan has re-energized me and my staff.”

IMPORTANT: Fair Work Award Pay Rate Changes! Do they impact you or your business?

Changes are coming to how casuals are paid overtime from the first full pay period on or after 20 November 2020.

On 30 October 2020, the Fair Work Commission announced updates to the casual and overtime clauses in 97 awards. The updated clauses start from the first full pay period on or after 20 November 2020.
