🗑️ Know Your Bin Collection Day

As Temora continues to grow, we've updated our Garbage Collection Day Map to keep waste collection services running efficiently across the Shire.

With new residential developments added to existing collection routes, some collection days have changed. This means that not all properties previously collected on Wednesdays will continue to be on the Wednesday collection.

📍 Take a moment to check the map included with this post and confirm your collection day, particularly if you live in a newer subdivision or developing area.

🗓️ The updated collection schedule will take effect from the week commencing Tuesday, 7 July 2026, so remember to place your bin out the night before your scheduled collection day.

🤝 Meet, Mingle & Connect

Last week, we welcomed our community to the Temora Arts Centre for a fantastic evening of connection, creativity and conversation.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout, with long-time residents, new faces and families coming together to meet new people, catch up with familiar faces and celebrate what makes Temora Shire such a welcoming place to live.

From trying pottery, watercolours and charcoal drawing, to learning the ukulele, playing mahjong and enjoying face painting, there was something for everyone. More importantly, it was an opportunity to build new connections and strengthen our sense of community.

We hope you enjoy this look back at a wonderful evening, and we look forward to seeing you at another community event soon!

Have Your Say – Draft Amended Companion Animal Policy & Procedure 🐾

Following community feedback received during the first public exhibition period, Council has reviewed the submissions and made a number of amendments to the Draft Companion Animal Policy and Procedure.

Rather than adopting the revised documents immediately, Council resolved at the June Council Meeting to place the amended drafts back on public exhibition. This gives the community an opportunity to see how the feedback has been considered and let us know if we've got it right before the documents are finalised.

The amended drafts include updates to improve clarity, incorporate current terminology, strengthen provisions relating to menacing dogs, and provide further guidance on the management of stray and feral cats.

The Policy and Procedure aim to provide clear expectations for responsible pet ownership while outlining Council's role in managing issues such as barking dogs, nuisance animals, dangerous and menacing dogs, lost animals, rehoming, microchipping, registration and feral animal management across the Shire.

Over recent months, Temora Shire Council has been keeping the community informed about the ongoing decline in Federal Financial Assistance Grants and what that means for Local Government.

These grants, which were originally set at 1% of total Commonwealth tax revenue, have fallen to around 0.5% today, placing increasing pressure on councils across Australia to continue delivering the services and infrastructure communities rely on.

From maintaining local roads and footpaths to operating the library, caring for parks and sporting facilities, collecting waste, supporting tourism, community events and economic development, Local Government plays an essential role in everyday life.

That's why Temora Shire Council continues to support the NSW Country Mayors Association's Invest in Us campaign, calling on the Federal Government to restore Financial Assistance Grants to 1% of total Commonwealth tax revenue.

If you'd like to support the campaign, postcards are available from the Temora Shire Council Administration Building and Temora Shire Library for residents to send to their local Federal and State Members of Parliament.

By working together, we can help ensure remote, rural and regional communities across NSW—have the funding needed to continue providing the services, facilities and infrastructure our communities value.

We recently asked our community to take part in the Early Insights Survey as part of Council’s work on long-term financial sustainability.

Thank you to the 269 people who shared their views.

The results show that while some people feel informed, there is still a clear gap in understanding Council’s financial position and Special Rate Variations (SRVs).

What we heard 👇

📊 Many people have some understanding of Council’s financial position, but there is still a clear gap in awareness
🏛️ 94% said it is important Council remains financially sustainable and can continue delivering services and infrastructure into the future
🛣️ Roads, waste and recycling, and parks and gardens were identified as the top priorities
⚖️ 52% supported a balanced approach to addressing financial challenges, rather than relying on a single option
💻 Council’s page, website and email updates were the preferred ways to receive information, with online surveys the preferred way to provide feedback

These findings will help shape the next stage of Council’s work on financial sustainability, including how we share information and engage with our community moving forward.

We’ll also continue using a mix of communication and engagement methods so everyone has the opportunity to stay informed and have their say.

Productivity and Efficiency Gains Plan Update 📣

At last night's June Ordinary Council Meeting, Temora Shire Council received an update on the implementation of its Organisational Efficiency and Productivity Gains Improvement Plan.

Since this Plan was endorsed at the 20 November 2025 Council Meeting, Council has completed 40 initiatives with over $1 million in savings year on year.

In the latest update, Council has completed a further 11 initiatives delivering over $80,000 in savings and generating over $80,000 in additional revenue from 1 July 2026. Some of these initiatives included:

ℹ A review of the Visitor Information Centre and Rural Museum. Which involved merging roles resulting in reduced staff costs and reducing the opening hours, saving $25,000 every year.

☑️ Reducing service levels in relation to street sweeping and footpath cleaning (including Hoskins Street), saving $20,000 every year.

Work will continue in this space with a further 16 actions having commenced or already underway. As more initiatives are delivered, the savings will continue to grow—helping strengthen Council's long-term financial sustainability.

Did you know Temora Shire Council has a Hardship Policy to support ratepayers experiencing financial difficulty?

Life can sometimes bring unexpected challenges, whether it's illness, changes in income, family circumstances, or other unforeseen events. That's why Council expanded its Hardship Policy to provide more support for people in our shire community who may be struggling to keep up with their rates.

The updated policy includes broader eligibility criteria, more flexible payment arrangements, and in some cases, interest relief while an approved arrangement is in place.

Importantly, all applications are handled confidentially and with care. If you prefer, you can apply online and receive the outcome in writing, without needing to meet with or speak to a staff member.

If you're experiencing financial difficulty, or you're unsure whether you may be eligible for assistance, we encourage you to reach out early and explore the support options available.
