Thank you to all who posted a comment or a like for bells closing. It has been so heartwarming to see so many kind words for what we accomplished over the 8+ years of operation. I still have time here in Torquay to finish up everything but it will be sad to drive out for the last time. I will be back.

The time has come for my little hostel by the coast to close down. It has been a great part of Bella’s and my life. Good times and bad.
We thank all that have come and gone. A huge thank you to those of you who have helped to shape my place by doing the cleaning, office work, social media etc.
Our final act is a blowout party here at the hostel today from 3pm.
Cheers and best wishes. Sean Kershaw & Bella

⭐️📍SPOTLIGHT ON TORQUAY 🌊

We’re bringing you a new weekly segment where we share the very best of the best Torquay businesses. From where to get your morning coffee to our favourite spot for a cheeky cocktail, consider us your Torquay tour guides.

⭐️ Starting with our number 1…. Mikro Coffee Roasters -

You thought Melbourne had good coffee? Just wait until you try some of the goodness coming out of Torquay. Mikro’s roast is so delicious, they provide beans to half the cafes on the Surf Coast! This specialty coffee roaster also offers barista training if you want to recreate the perfect cup of coffee back home. 🏡 ☕️

You’ll find their little coffee shop on Surf Coast Highway - just a few doors down from Bells Beach Backpackers - so there’s no excuse not to roll out of bed and get your caffeine fix. 😜

We give Mikro a massive thumbs up for using only sustainable and fair trade coffee beans. We LOVE a green biz! 🌱

It’s that time of week again! ⏰ coming at you with number ten on our EPIC list!

#10 Teddy’s Lookout -

What is it about looking out over a road that is so damn entrancing? Well, nothing. Unless it’s the Great Ocean Road herself! Teddy’s Lookout with it’s gorgeous spanning vistas is one of our favourite spots to check out this good looking strip of bitumen from afar. 😍

This scenic lookout is just the other side of Lorne at the mouth of the Saint George River, a 50 minute drive from Torquay. Where the forest meets the sea, the spot perfectly encapsulates the energy of the GOR. Wander out onto the viewing platform and see how the road hugs the cliffs as it snakes its way up the coastline. Watch the crashing waves and river currents collide. Feel the faint spray of the ocean breeze on your cheeks. 🌊

Our top tip is to time your visit with the sunrise or sunset. Make the most of that glowy and totally **Instagrammable** golden hour light dancing on the water. Just divine! 🤤

Cheers for reading along and don’t forget to follow along for more of our weekly GOR gems! 💎

What is there to do in Torquay? 🌊 Well, nothing really if you're not into beautiful scenery, vibin' entertainment or adventure sports... 🏄‍♀️ 🚴 🏊‍♀️

Here in Torquay you have an endless list of great things to do with your day/night, whatever you're into!

- maybe you could try surfing at the beach, swimming or kite-surfing, paddle-boarding? Or how about some roller-skate fun? 🏄‍♀️

- maybe you're in need of a great brunch, dinner or decadent coffee? ☕️

- maybe you'd like to grab a bargain at one of the many clothing outlets? Or check out some CHIC AF home-furnishing stores? 🛍

- maybe you feel like wandering to one of the many beautiful look out points? 🌊 🌱

- Maybe you could finish your night or start (🙊 we won't judge) your day with a dance, a great gin or locally brewed beer with all the tunes! 🎶 💃

Whatever you're feeling we have something for you in the 'Surf Capital of Australia' 🌊 ☀️

We could go on and on... but instead we'll break here and drop you a *FEW* great places/businesses who **DO US PROUD**, to check out below before your next visit 😉..

It’s that time of week again! ⏰ coming at you with number nine on our EPIC list! 💎

#9 Erskine Falls -

This one is for the outdoor adventurers and nature lovers and it is absolutely spectacular. Erskine Falls can be found in the hinterland of Lorne, one hour from Torquay. The falls may be just minutes from the township but they feel miles away.

Part of the Otways rainforest, the area is home to dreamy waterfalls, trickling creeks, lush green ferns and towering eucalyptus trees. The Erskine Falls plummet 30 metres into the gully and just a few minutes up the track you’ll also come across Straw Falls. They may be smaller but they’re every bit as gorgeous as they cascade down the terraced rocks, giving off a magical mist.

How you experience the waterfalls depends on how active you’re feeling. You can park at the top and get all the views with minimal effort; you can make the steep descent down to the bottom of the falls and do some exploring of the trails; or if you’ve got a bit of hiking experience under your belt, you can follow the river all the way up from Lorne. This 7.5 km (each way) walk will take around three hours, so pack a picnic for lunch.

Our top tip is to wear good walking shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. The trail can get very wet and muddy and it crosses the river several times where you’ll need to clamber over slippery rocks and logs. Have fun and try not to fall in!

Cheers for reading along and don’t forget to follow along for more of our weekly GOR gems! 💎

If 2020 was all about hyper-local travel (*cough* travelling to our backyards) what will 2021 bring? If the past year has taught us anything, it’s to cherish every second spent travelling because you never know when it might be your last budget flight or bumpy bus ride.

Even if you're not a New Years Resolution maker (or keeper!) you'll want to jump on the bandwagon when you hear how good ours are.
