There’s so much to love about the NQ wet season 🌧️🌿

This is when our region truly comes alive with cooler days, lush green landscapes and waterfalls at their absolute best. From local waterfalls and gorges to the iconic Wallaman Falls, Australia’s tallest single-drop waterfall, the rains mean they’re all flowing and spectacular. 💦

Standing tall offshore at The Strand, this striking statue is far more than a photo opportunity, it’s a powerful message for our reef 🌊💙

This artwork was created to raise awareness about rising sea temperatures and the threat they pose to the Great Barrier Reef, encouraging all of us to take action to protect it.

What makes it truly unique is how it works. The statue is live and connected to an Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) weather station on Davies Reef.

As ocean temperatures change, the LED lights within the sculpture shift colour, translating real-time reef data into something we can see and connect with. The orange colour shown here indicates warming ocean temperatures.

The design features Takoda Johnson, a young Indigenous girl from the Wulgurukaba people, holding a Bayliss shell, a beautiful symbol of the next generation of reef guardians and the deep cultural connection to sea country.

You’ll find this meaningful artwork and many more on The Strand foreshore near the Strand Jetty, right in the heart of one of Townsville’s most vibrant areas. With walking paths, swimming, playgrounds, cafés and ocean views, The Strand offers something for everyone, and it’s only a 45-minute drive from us, making it an easy day trip.

There’s no better way to welcome a new year than a sunrise like this. Salty air, soft sand, and the best seat on the beach. Here’s to slower mornings, golden horizons, and plenty of reasons to return again and again in 2026. 🌅✨

Our hearts are heavy as we send our love, strength and deepest support to all the victims, first responders, and the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. 🤍

We are in awe of the bravery shown by those who stepped in to help during such a chaotic time. May some good, however small, come from this heartbreak through unity, kindness and care for one another.

We hold everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers, and we hope for healing and peace in the days ahead. May our country come together, heal, and find its way back to peace and love for all Australians 🕊️💔
