We often focus on the beautiful coastline around Tumby Bay, but there’s another side of the region that’s every bit as captivating. Head inland and you’ll find rolling farmland, lush green paddocks and quiet country roads that seem made for exploring.

A leisurely drive through the countryside is a wonderful way to while away a few hours, particularly when the landscape is at its greenest. The roads around the Tumby Bay district take you through a changing patchwork of cropping country, grazing land and gentle hills, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take in the views and simply enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside.

For a longer outing, make your way towards Koppio, where you can combine the drive with a visit to the historic Koppio Smithy Museum. Or head further inland towards Cummins, where the scenery changes with the seasons—from brilliant green and flowering canola to golden paddocks at harvest time.

Sometimes the best way to experience Tumby is simply to turn off the main road, slow down and see where the country roads take you.

Looking for something a little different to do around Tumby Bay? 🌿

We’re always talking about the coast, the ocean and our beautiful beaches — but have you taken the time to explore the countryside?

The surrounding hills are looking absolutely stunning at the moment, with lush green paddocks, rolling hills and beautiful country roads just waiting to be explored. 🚗💚

Why not pack a picnic, jump in the car and take a leisurely drive through the countryside?

Or make a day of it and explore the Twitchers Trail, winding through the beautiful farming country between Lipson and Ungarra, with local birdlife and mosaic artworks along the way.

Sometimes the best way to see Tumby Bay is to simply take the road less travelled. 🌱

What a catch — and what a feast!

These lucky fishermen came to clean their catch of beautiful King George whiting at the fish cleaning station here at the Tumby Bay Caravan Park. It was a great catch and a well-earned reward for a day of fishing. We reckon they would have been looking forward to a very tasty dinner — fresh King George whiting is hard to beat!

But the pelicans were certainly not going to let all that goodness go to waste!

As the fish were cleaned, the pelicans were right there waiting for their share. And judging by the number of King George whiting skeletons disappearing down those enormous bills, they were making sure every last morsel was enjoyed.

The pelicans were putting on quite a show, jostling for position and eagerly snapping up the leftover frames as they came their way. One after another, the skeletons vanished — a very satisfying feast for the hungry pelican crew!

A great catch for the fishermen and an absolute seafood banquet for the pelicans!

Around our local beaches here in Tumby Bay, you’ll often see signs like these helping to protect our precious Hooded Plovers and their chicks.

We were incredibly fortunate to see more than 30 Hooded Plover fledglings! Given the very high mortality rate of these vulnerable little beach-nesting birds, it was absolutely fabulous to see so many young birds making it through to fledging.

A wonderful reminder of how important these signs, and the care of our local community and volunteers, are in giving our Hoodies the best chance of survival. Please keep an eye out for the signs, give the birds plenty of space and keep dogs on leads where required.

What a privilege to witness!
