After more than eleven months of renovations we are finally there! I am happy with the result and want to share with you some photos that will show off the improvements. All bathrooms have been renovated and the main guest room now features an ensuite.

The main renovations were to the outside of the house and new sitting areas have been created, making guests' stay even more comfortable and enhancing the rainforest ambience and magic.

The current rates will remain until April 2023.

Support Bob Irwin. I have been very quiet on facebook but today I really have to write my mind. I cannot believe what happened to one of the kindest, most gentle people I know. Why would anyone try to hurt this special man so much, and why would family do this. I have known Bob Irwin for over 45 years, how much pain did this man have to suffer, losing his beloved wife and son. How much more pain is he supposed to take. Surely this latest one would have been avoidable. Can't Bindi just be happy to be a young mum, why cause so much pain. Bob has never said a wrong word about his grandkids, he would be incapable to do so. Bob stands for integrity, kindness and above all, a deep connection to nature. Bob Irwin has given the world so much, the energy he puts into his conservation efforts is unbelievable. He has caused public awareness and supported amazing nature projects. Now it is time the world takes care of Bob. We love you, Bob, and we stand behind you. ❤️❤️

Apologies that I have not responded sooner to your warm and caring comments on Callie's death. I intended to reply to each and every one of you but somehow it still has not happened. I just can't crawl out of my hole quite yet... The heartache is still there every day. Thank you so much for your supporting words, they are truly healing. You are helping me a lot and I am grateful to every one of you.' ❤️

This is the hardest post I ever had to write 💔💔💔💔😭
The wonderful tree kangaroo joey is dead. Monday started off as usual, drink, play , sleep. Then he got unusually restless. On the way to the vet he had a seizure, at the vet another one. check ups, examination, medication. He died thirty minutes later. I am sad, numb, devastated. I cherish the precious few days we had, he will be in my heart forever. The lucky boy who was found against all odds died just like that, why... RIP gorgeous Callie. He is with Kimberley and Monty now, they will look after him. 💔💔

This lovely little man has not got a name yet...In true tradition it will have to end with Y or IE, as in Geoffrey, Timothy, Gregory, Monty, Dobby... Any suggestions??
Right now he is asleep in the top of my shirt and snoring, we had a big day....

I have not posted any news from Lumholtz Lodge since Kimberley the tree kangaroo and her joey were killed by feral dogs in early September last year, I just could not communicate. Over a week ago, on June 7th a 19 year old man, Callum, went on a joy ride on his dirt bike near Herberton and came across a tree roo joey that sat right in the middle of his path, covered in mud. Callum recalled '' it looked like he was waiting for me.." What a miraculous coincidence, what a lucky joey! Callum stepped back and waited for 40 minutes to make sure the tree roo mother was not looking for the joey. All was quiet and when he finally picked the little man up he was full of lice, had obviously been on his own for some days. Callum stuck him in his shirt and rode home. His care, assessment of the situation and consequent actions were nothing short of perfect. What an amazing rescue! His sister Michaela called me and when I picked up the lucky joey I was truly moved. The planet is not lost with gorgeous young people like this around. Thank you so much, Callum for saving this wonderful tree kangaroos life. Hope you and Michaela will visit the little man often, you'll always be welcome.
The little tree roo is doing so well, has gone from 573g to 677g in just over a week. Initially he slept a lot but now he likes exploring and is full of life. Just see for yourselves....

It was so wonderful to discover a couple of days ago that Kimberley has another joey in the pouch. I just hope it will make her come out of her depression soon, she is still so down after losing Monty to an eagle early July. The Joey is about 30 days old, which means he was conceived when Monty was still alive. It is early stages but I am sure she will be a lovely, caring mum again.

When I wrote about Monty's death last night I was so heart broken. Today I just needed to keep myself busy. On checking facebook late tonight, I can not believe the response to the post! Over 7000 views and so many comments, all of them so warm and kind. I would not have believed that I could feel anything but empty and sad for a long while. All of you who commented and sent kind wishes have made such a difference, thank you so much to you all. Just knowing that Monty has touched so many hearts is so special. Your support has helped a great deal, thank you.

Our beloved Monty is dead.
A few days ago while Kimberley and him were enjoying the winter sun high up in the tree tops he was most likely taken by a wedge tailed eagle, dropped and ended up in the creek. What an undignified end to the most incredible tree roo personality I have ever known. I found him the next day, a gut wrenching experience. I think Kimberley already knew, I still put her through the terrible experience to see Monty's body. I needed to make sure she was not exposing herself to danger scanning the forest floor looking for him. Life is empty without him, Kimberley is so confused.
Everybody who ever got to meet the incredible Monty was touched by him. Maybe he was too perfect for this world. Katrin, you and I were the most privileged people to have his complete trust and love, even though it makes our pain all the deeper. Kimberley had looked after him so well, taught him so much, he was the most able tree kangaroo youngster I have ever known. I expected him to be the alpha male in this forest one day. Never expect anything but be grateful for every happy moment you can share with someone you love.

I always thought Monty's exquisite white claw on his right little finger was his own individual trade mark. Until a guest photographed the wild boy Gregory's right hand... I don't think we need a DNA test to verify who Monty's dad is......
