✨EARTH TO VENUS✨
On a full moon evening, I decided to photograph this very visible Yakka on the side of Hog Bay road. Its one of the tallest Yakka spikes I've seen on KI. I noticed, as I framed this Yakka against the stars, that Venus was in line with the spike, so I positioned my camera to shoot the tip of the spike and Venus together, illuminating the very tip. I enjoy creating more than just a picture, I like to leave a touch of magic 😊

This print of Jupiter shining brightly alongside the iconic castle rock - Vivonne Bay is currently available for order.

The most beautiful shot of airglow I have ever photographed during astronomical twilight.

The soft colour bands visible in this photograph are caused by airglow, a natural atmospheric phenomenon. Green light is produced by oxygen molecules, red emissions originate from higher-altitude oxygen, and warm yellow-orange tones are linked to sodium atoms. These colours are revealed through long exposure photography in dark skies and are not digitally created or Al-generated.

Post editing just a touch of saturation to a RAW file to bring the colour out.

One of those “what on earth is that?!” moments today…

We were at Vivonne Bay having lunch when Julie, my colleague, ducked into the toilets and came straight back out saying,
“Nikki… you need to see this.”

There it was, sitting quietly on the screen — the most incredible moth I don’t think I’ve ever seen before.

Beautifully patterned, almost mossy-green, perfectly camouflaged… like it belonged more on bark than on a building.

I had no idea what it was at the time, but a friend has since told me it’s a green ghost moth, Aenetus blackburnii

Just another reminder of how much there is to discover out here — even in the most unexpected places.
