This coming Thursday at The Commerial Hotel, the Summerland Kings are playing live from 7pm. Its a great opportunity to pop in after Touch Football and cool off with a few beverages and the sounds of live music.
The Summerland Kings are a band that play some fantastic dance and listening music from many of the greats of Rock’n’Roll /Blues / Country Rock /Boogie Blues / Country/ Stones/ Dylan/, Beatles, as well as many other memorable songs from several great musical eras.
Basicaly, a solid mixture of "get up and dance" music, The Kings can swing with the best of 'em. They are also an entertaining collection of people on stage.
Definitely not a bunch of young fresh faces, .. between them, they've done the hard yards, learnt what to do, and how to do it right, playing the graveyard shifts at seedy pubs, as well as performing to the raffle crowds at clubs throughout the state.
Due to the enormous variety of musical backgrounds, and talents within the band, they have the great ability to perform an astounding number of requests, without ever having played them before. Something very few bands can do, .. these guys can entertain, and they play for the crowd.
The Mighty Summerland Kings are a five piece band, with two strong lead singers, exceptional musicianship, and with lots of quality harmony vocals.
The lead instruments include blues harmonica, pedal steel and lead guitar.
In the rhythm section, complimenting the drummer, they feature congas as additional percussion, played by the same man who also wails on the harmonica, "Doctor" Bob Morton.
As well as being an exceptional harmonica player, .. percussionist, and entertainer, Bob is also the son of one of Australias country music icons, ..... the legendary Tex Morton!
Tex was the first performer to have a bronze statue erected in his honour, in Tamworth.
Tex, in his heyday, had record sales which-out sold both Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby, combined! Nationally, he was huge, and internationally, he was very successful. In the 1960's, Tex Morton also had successful country music TV shows. in both Australia and New Zealand.
He was also the very first performer to be honoured with a life size bronze statue, in Tamworth.
