Back in January 2024, the hotel was lucky enough to be transformed into the "Pahenlo Putali Lodge" located in the Nepali town of Kodari for the film "Ice Road: Vengance" starring Liam Neeson and Fan Bingbing among many talented Australian actors like Grace O'Sullivan, Amelia Bishop, Kaden Hartcher, Geoff Morell, Shivantha Wijesinha and Mahesh Jadu to name a few.

The filming also included a number of extras from our nearby Nepali community in the Latrobe Valley who were so excited to see Walhalla transformed to a Nepali look alike in Australia. We met many of them and they were a lot of fun and lovely people. The film, while not the best ever produced, was an exciting chapter for the hotel and certainly gave us a lot of publicity and coverage. It was fantastic to be transformed to Nepal for a few weeks of make believe Hollywood magic and be part of the experience.

Everyone will no doubt be aware of the devastating flash floods that have ravaged the valleys of Nepal. While the "real" town of Kodari has not been affected, it is located just one valley away from where a wall of water swept through killing well over 400 people, injuring many more and destroying lives, properties and families. Many tourists have also been caught in the disaster.

Our heart goes out to the victims and those who have had their lives changed forever by this catastrophic natural event. We are sure that our close knit local Nepali community that helped to make the film in Walhalla is hurting too.

We have made a donation to the Nepal Flood Disaster Appeal and would ask you to consider making a donation too to help the victims of this dreadful disaster.

We are very pleased and excited to advise that we have been accredited through the Accessible Tourism Accreditation Program. When the hotel was designed and built by Michael back in 1998, it was always designed to be fully accessible on the ground floor. Now with our new lift it's easy to access the first floor too plus we did some upgrades to our wheelchair accessible room to ensure it complies fully with users needs. We are very proud to join the movement in tourism to ensure everyone, regardless of their ability, can have a fantastic holiday.

Happy 12th Birthday to our Head Customer Relations Manager Tilly.

Our gorgeous girl is growing old gracefully with style. Alway gentle, always loving and always sweet, Tilly is much loved by us and all our guests who meet her and accept her affection.

She’s still looking good, a bit deaf and her vision is fading but she’s still a patting machine.

The end of an era!

With our new Next Level Elevators lift going into service this week, the task of bringing all the laundry down the stairs has come to an end. From now on we will use trollies that fit into the lift.

So after some 27 years, we thought we’d take a snap of the very last load of laundry to descend the stairs. Admittedly this is one job we’re glad technology has relegated to the bin of history.
