Walkerville Foreshore Camping Reserve

The Walkerville Foreshore Camping Reserve stretches for 1km along the western edge of Waratah Bay .

Located in the northern end of the 3.8km long Walkerville Foreshore Reserve. Overlooking the beach on Waratah bay, the reserve provides a quiet, peaceful camping location for families and friends. Here we will keep you up to date with the latest news and events within the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve and Campground.

MELB CUP Bookings open soon!

Bookings for the Melbourne Cup Long Weekend 2026 will be available to book online from 9am , Saturday June 6th 2026
at https://www.walkervilleforeshore.com.au/

Applicable dates are as follows:
Fri Oct 30th – Mon Nov 2nd (3 night minimum).
As there will be high demand for these bookings, there are a few points to consider:

To book a campsite, equipment details including Length and Type must be entered.

When you press the Book Now button a Booking Hold timer will display, holding a site for you, for 5 minutes + 1 extension. (Total 10min). This will give you time to select a site, fill guest details and payment information, without having to worry about someone else getting in ahead. If the timer expires you can continue with your booking without the guarantee of availability, or you can restart the booking process.

Sites “swap and cancel” amongst friends and family members are not allowed.

Sites are numbered 1 through 132.
Sites 37 is our bungalow.

FORESHORE RESERVE BOUNDARIES

Understanding where the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve begins is an important part of protecting Walkerville’s coastal environment. We have now posted Boundary Maps on our website to help landholders and residents identify adjoining Crown land, avoid unintentional encroachment, and support the shared care of this important public reserve.

EASTER CLOSURE WALKERVILLE SOUTH RAMP - BEACH SAFETY
Walkerville South Closed to recreational vehicles – Friday 3rd APRIL 2026 – Monday 6th APRIL 2026 inclusive.

The Walkerville South beach will be closed to recreational vehicles to reduce the risk to beach users during the four day period over the Easter Long Weekend (3rd April - 6 April inclusive). Bollards will be installed on the beach access ramp.

Traffic Control and Parking at Walkerville South is managed by South Gippsland Shire Council.

The cessation of fire restrictions in the South Gippsland fire district has been brought forward a few weeks by the CFA. As a result campfires will be permitted in our camping reserve, from Wednesday April 8, 2026. This is the Wednesday AFTER the Easter break, so NO campfires during EASTER, unfortunately.

We currently have some seals resting on the beaches in the Foreshore Reserve. Please be respectful. Do not approach or disturb them.

Please be reminded that during the summer period, dogs are only permitted on Walkerville South Beach before 9:00 AM and after 6:00 PM. Dogs are strictly prohibited on the beach between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Additionally, we ask all dog owners to please take their pet waste bags home. There is currently no waste collection service provided on the Walkerville Foreshore.

To those using the beach this morning, please be mindful that this is a shared space. Leaving waste behind is unacceptable and impacts the entire community.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our foreshore clean.

Just a reminder that the Walkerville South beach access ramp will be closed to vehicle traffic from later today until the end of January. Boats can be launched at Walkerville North as per normal.

DOGS at WALKERVILLE SOUTH BEACH

A quick reminder that our Summer Dog rules came in to effect today. If you wish to take you dog for a walk here, do so on a leash before 9.00 am or after 6pm.

From 1 December until the end of Easter :- Dogs are NOT permitted on the Walkerville South beach from 9.00 am until 6.00 pm. Outside of these hours dogs must be on a leash.

Similar rules apply at WALKERVILLE NORTH BEACH to the South of the community hall all the way along to WALKERVILLE SOUTH BEACH and to the North of the Camping reserve boom gates.

With Summer fast approaching, a reminder of upcoming seasonal changes at WALKERVILLE SOUTH.

BOLLARDS - The Walkerville South beach access ramp will be closed to vehicles from December 24 through until the end of January and for Easter 2026. No boat launching.

TRAFFIC - South Gippsland Shire Council will be providing traffic control at Walkerville South beach throughout the busy summer period.

DOGS- From 1 December until the end of Easter :- Dogs are NOT permitted on the Walkerville South beach from 9.00 am until 6.00 pm. Outside of these hours dogs must be on a leash.

Unfortunately the Limeburner's track linking Walkerville South and North remains closed, precluding walking access between the two localities when the tide is in. It appears that the southern section is being decommissioned by Parks Victoria, while the northern end across the Bluff to the cemetery has been reopened. We are aware of the strong community support for the Limeburner's track linking the two ends of Walkerville. However this track is not in the Walkerville Foreshore Reserve, so please direct any enquiries to Parks Victoria.
