Waters near Warrnambool are once again off-limits to boats – helping keep southern right whales safe. 🐋

An exclusion zone at Logan Beach is in place each year from June to the end of October.

This sheltered stretch of coastline is where southern right whales regularly return to give birth and care for their calves - making it an important site for the threatened species. 💙

The zone extends between Gaul’s Cave and Point Ritchie, with all powered watercraft prohibited from entering.

Across all other Victorian waters, boats must stay at least 200 metres from whales, and jet skis at least 300 metres.

If you see a watercraft inside the Logans Beach exclusion zone or breaching minimum distances, report it to Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000.

We’ll post as quickly as possible and also put all sightings and updates on our Facebook Story.
💡TIP: Quickest way to see updates is by following the page and checking the Story throughout the day.

We report across the entirety of the GOR Coastline, 📍Nelson to Torquay.

Reports with no photo will be named ‘unofficial’ – this is to prevent the great phenomenon of ‘kelp’ and ‘reef’ whales 😆.

If you have any questions, reach out! Otherwise, grab your binoculars, beanies, a little bit of patience and enjoy the season.
