The Abbey Front Doors

One of our most loved ceremony spots, the front steps of The Abbey offer a truly unforgettable backdrop for wedding moments filled with love, history, and meaning. Framed by the grandeur of the building and its timeless sandstone architecture, the original cedar double doors stand as a beautiful connection between past and present.

Crafted from locally sourced cedar, these doors hold generations of history. They retain their original French door lock and were designed without an external keyhole, as the building was never locked or left empty during its time as a convent.

An original electric bell, fitted to the building in 1893, still remains in place today, with buttons located beside the front door and on the side of the main staircase, and continues to be part of the building’s living history.

During restoration works in the 1990s, these remarkable doors were discovered hidden beneath eight layers of paint, revealing the craftsmanship that had been hidden for decades.

Today, they stand once again in their natural beauty, a romantic and historic backdrop to today's love stories 💍

STAY – Mother Superior’s Room

This is one of our beautiful heritage rooms, filled with charm, character, and history. As the name suggests, this room was once Mother Superior’s bedroom and is slightly larger than the other nun’s rooms. She was responsible for overseeing the student boarders, and to this day, there is still a door in the room that leads through to the former student dormitory.

This section of the building was added during the second phase of construction in 1904 and is known as the Western Wing.

Today, the room continues to hold its timeless beauty and unique character, offering a peaceful retreat with a king-sized bed. A private bathroom is located just down the hallway.
