d right at the foot of the famous 199 Steps leading up to St. Mary’s Church and the magnificent jewel that is Whitby Abbey, a site that has been inspiring visitors, artists and writers for over 1500 years and probably most famously as featured in Bram Stoker’s Gothic Horror novel Dracula with the black dog escaping up the steps from the shipwrecked Demeter on Tate Hill Sands. Ideally located for exploring Whitby’s historic east side, Kiln Cottage is situated in Kiln Yard, one of Whitby’s famous yards off Church Street and close to the Market Place and it’s thriving restaurants, pubs, cafes and shopping experience, as well as Tate Hill Sands and Fortune’s Famous Kipper Shop on Henrietta Street. Open the gate and walk through the arch into a very quiet secluded oasis that is Kiln Yard, and away from the hustle and bustle of old Whitby’s ancient cobbled Church Street to the stunning Kiln Cottage.
