Dracula 🧛

🦇📖 On This Day in 1897, Dracula Was Published

On 26th May 1897, Dracula by Irish author Bram Stoker was published in London by Archibald Constable and Company.

Born in Clontarf, Dublin, Stoker created a novel that would become one of the defining works of gothic horror. Drawing on folklore, superstition, Victorian fears, and earlier vampire traditions, he shaped the image of the vampire that still dominates popular culture today.

Count Dracula was eerie, intelligent, and strangely charismatic - a figure who moved beyond the pages of the novel into film, theatre, and global folklore.

Though Stoker never saw the full scale of the legacy his book would create, Dracula became one of the most influential horror novels ever written.

A Dublin writer gave the world one of literature’s darkest immortals.

Great picture, Vlad! 🖤🖤🖤

My soul is stirring, it is time to descend upon Whitby for World Dracula Day, on Tuesday 26th May.

It is an honour to celebrate my biographer Bram Stoker and the publication of my story, Dracula in 1897. Through his gothic mastery, I have been granted a second eternity among you.

You may find me atop the 199 steps, wandering the Abbey, or taking a table at your harbour establishments. Approach me! Ask of Transylvania, eternal life, young Bram... or where I enjoy a 'bite'.

I look forward to your company,
Yours in anticipation,
Vlad Dracul III - Dracula
